Default Changing Tiptronic Shifter

I just bought a 1999 996 Tiptronic. The car is wonderful, but for some reason the Tip leather shifter was covered in grim I could not get off. I recently bought a replacement shifter. Does anyone know what I need to do to put it on? I have heard it is one screw, but cannot seem to locate it. Thanks in advance!

No screws involved. First you have to pop off the plastic spring-loaded thumb buttone-just grab it at the top and bottom and pull up (it is press-fit on). in the opening it vacates, you will see a U-shaped retaining pin, about the thickness of a paper clip, which fits through a notch on the shift lever and holds the **** in place. With a pair of needle-nosed pliers, grab the exposed part of the pin (the bottom of the "U"), and pull straight back (towards the back of the car). The pin will slide out. You can now lift the shift **** off with no difficulty
