Fair enough, I get your perspective. I also wasn't there and do not know what was said or not said. I do not like liars either.
That being said, I would gladly buy a clean, well-maintained 996 roller with a blown engine for $4K any day of the week. If you're up for the project, you can have a great running car with a new long block, or salvaged engine for less than the cost of most high mileage 996s on the market (assuming you do the work yourself). Worst case, the parts alone are worth far more than $4k.

Then I thought why pick a part a motor that may have the same issue down the road (no guarantees) so I'm now thinking Raby has a one year waiting list, for $20K I can get a bullet proof 4.0...Now where the heck did I leave that $15K.
I don't know if I can wait a year so option 1 might be my plan and save up for option . With a big expansion of my company ready to take place the next 6-8 months are going to be tough but the increased revenue after that is going to be good!
Thoughts?

I'd love a Raby engine. It just isn't in my cards due to the cost.
For a driver, I would get ahold of Mike at QualityPorscheParts on eBay (he is also PartsSociety.com). I purchased a good used motor from him for a fair price.
You could also try Norspec Dismantling, I've had good positive dealings with them as well.
I know a lot of people will suggest this is a bad idea, since you are potentially inheriting someone else's problems, but my sample of one worked out fine.

A year is a long time to wait, but at least you don’t have to go out and buy a long-term-temporary daily driver.
I’d consider buying an RND long block, or just buy a used motor and rebuild it using an LN Nickies set.
If rebuilding myself, first step would be visiting theknowledgegruppe.com.

RND=$15K Correction, (long block not short) for a short block, and nothing available at this time.
I'm just continuing the process of unhooking everything so I can drop it. Not much free time or money lying around when you own a small business...

Nice thing about the RND option it comes with a couple of the major weak points already addressed. Nickies, IMSB upgrade. I do see they have a short list of available engines. Wonder when/if they will be caught up with the demand. One of their strong selling points was the ability for quick availability plus the one to five day delivery.

But $15K... For a short block???
You can buy a spare running car for that kind of money, use the engine and sell the remaining parts to reduce your total cost.
Or a running engine from a reputable salvage yard, and have $5-6K left over.

Yeah, I get that. Expensive, but less risky than some of the other options. There are others who will rebuild your engine for less money. I have seen many positive comments about these folks, as well as some negatives about a few. It is nice to have choices these days rather than just the direct from Porsche engine which have been exorbitantly expensive. Looks like Porsche has reduced the cost of the M96 short block but it has some/most of the original inherent defects so there's that. I just would be squirmy about a used engine which could be as on the edge as my engine was before it puked. I have no affinity for RND. It just seems like an attractive option with some improvements.

Porsche no longer does complete engines for M96/M97, so those part numbers and prices listed are shortblocks and are sold without any warranty unless a Porsche dealership builds the engine and installs it in your car.

Mr. Navarro: Thanks for the clarification. Is RND behind on their demand? As I said above that was one of the attractive attributes of the program to me in addition to the improvements to the engine.

Is $15K the regular RND price, or does that have the Hawaii tax included?
