Default PSE Install Question.

Hi, PSE is on its way. Question: How high do you need to lift the back up (distance from bottom of tire to floor)? Are stands safe or will I need to pull and tug? Recommendations on what stands/ramps would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Loren, I did find your instructions. Can you tell me how much clearance I will need to get them out? I just want to make sure I purchase the correct items to safely/easily do it myself. Thanks.

Mim, when I did mine, I just cranked up the jack from the rear just high enough to start lifting the front wheel off the ground. Then did the same thing on the other side when it was time to do that side. I had chocks on the opposite wheels. Still, you kinda take your life in your own hands this way. Safest is to use jack stands, and taking the rear wheels off makes you need less ground clearance.

Most folks find it easiest to remove the two rear tires. Then as I described you can rotate the mufflers down and out to the side. You will need enough ground clearance to get your body well under the engine part of the car for the 3 muffler hanger nuts -- so your physical size will somewhat dictate the clearance needed. I always use "safety approved" jack stands and keep the jack under the car (with weight released to the jack stands - but there to backup if a jack stand failed) just to be extra safe.

Loren, thanks for the instructions.

Does anyone have a picture of the muffler with the 3 bolts which need to be removed?

My PSE is on the way, too. And I'm also trying to plan the install out. I have jackstands and a good jack, so no problem there. And I do plan to take the wheels off.

But looking at the stock mufflers, I'm not clear on which 3 bolts are to be removed. A picture would really help.

Thanks!

Do not remove the big bolts on the muffler hanging bracket. The PSE mufflers will come with their own hangers. The bolts go through the 3 small holes in the center of the bracket (item 1). Your new PSE mufflers will look slightly different as they have the bypass valves and pipes.

Too bad we're spread out all over the country. We could have had a PSE install-fest!
