Default Creaky Steering

Hi Guys,

I have just bought the car out of winter storage and noticed a creak coming from the center of the dash when I drive. I have just replaced all the bushes on the car (and it has full new MO30 suspension) so I'm wondering what it could be? Your help would be very much appreciated. I have seen it mentioned on other (lesser) forums that its merely a greasing matter. But what needs greasing, if indeed that is the issue.

You can hear the sound (not very well though) at 10.10 in this movie I made the other day:

Thanks guys.

PS. Happy to be back on the roads.

Can’t help with diagnosis, but my stock 2000 Boxster S with 107000 km exhibits the same behaviour.

I couldn't hear the noise well in the video, but my experience it could be the strut bearings. If they are dry they tend to bind when the car is steering.

Hi Guys, thank you.

Cosmo, I presumed given the struts are quite new they would be in the clear. But who knows... How do I grease them?

Thanks again.

I would change my power steering liquid. Bit of a PITA but well worth doing. Obviously check for a leak before changing fluid.

With a helper have someone steer the car and look in the front wheel well. If you see the strut binding or making noise while steering they are the culpret. These aren't always changed out when new struts are put in.

Unfortunately the strut has to be removed and the top mount taken off to grease them. A shortcut is to spray some lube in that area to quiet them down.
