Default Interior plastic trim bits need refreshing

A lot of the interior plastic trim bits in my 04 cab are pretty scuffed up. Not sure if from wear, or neglect or exposure from the top being down or just quality. But, plastic bits like the trim around the a/c/radio center panel, the trim around the front seat belt retractors on both sides and the center console look really worn. Not nicked, but it looks like the top layer of color wore off. Is there a way to touch them up or do they need to be replaced? If there is a touch up option, do the parts need to be removed or can they be done in place? Thanks.

https://www.suncoastparts.com/category/996intup.html This is where I go to see how much interior pieces would cost to replace on the 996, other may chim on the touch up pieces. But Ive seen them on different boards and some look good and some just look like crap...if you do the touch up I would remove them to avoid any overspray or just spraying in the interior

What color, I used plasti dip and very happy with results.

interior soft touch paint they used does not age well. You are better off pulling the pieces and sanding, adhesion promoter, base coat, , gloss coat, clear coat.

Thanks, I do have a list to call my local dealer next week for some replacement parts to see what new would cost vs touch up. I'm concerned about removing the center console and replacing or re-doing it. Guess I'll find out what that cost too. I saw a few other items that i like, like replacing the ash tray with the non-smoker kit tray.

Some of the bad items in my car don't show up in PET, or Suncoast, So I may have to try touching them up. Can't look worse than now.

Basic Classic Gray. If I have to respray, maybe an accent color would pop the interior better.

Don't be concerned about removing the center console or radio horseshoe ring, they come out much easier than you would think, I too was nervous about repainting mine so I bought the console and radio ring used off Parts Marketplace from another rennlist member for a good price, took my time and followed advice from others for prep and painting and they turned out great plus I have my oem pieces in case I ever sell and the buyer wants to go back to stock.

Thamks, guys, for the encouragement. That looks like the right way to do this. I'm not concerned about stock, since the car already has non-stock engine but picking up used parts from a dismantler or fellow RLister would give me plenty of time to prepare the parts in advance before taking the car apart.

Looking thru PET, looks like about a day's work to swap out the center console and radio horseshoe and some other bits.

This kind of worn "appearance" in my car's just drives me batty, I'm too **** but details matter. I'll start looking around for the parts I need for a summer project. This could turn out to look nice with a contrasting color so the interior isn't so gray.

If you’re into metropole blue, let me know, I have all of the dash parts, steering wheel, shifter, ebrake, airbag, etc from my 2000 C2. The center console would need to be refinished, and I don’t have carpets or seats, but I have all the rest.

What engine is in it?

Also it wont take a day, its a few hours taking your time at most, there are plenty of PDF write ups on it

Niiiiiice, I thought you were going to say LS swap or something to that degree! Even though its a 3.8 IMO everything can still be stock and look good but thats just me!

Soft touch original parts are hard to find

LS? Naw, it's still a real Porsche. Want to keep it looking good and close to stock. But, it's not true stock in concours terms. Don't know if I'd use the soft paint anyway, doesn't seem to last well. I think I can use a contrast color and make it look better.

Haha good to hear

Yeah the soft touch isn't great, painted centre consoles were a factory option though

I don't think its un-concourse because its been upgraded to a 3.8L that's an enhancement

Hi from France. Here a link to a French Porsche parts dealer ; all the types of interior pieces (color, material, option,...) are available (with their prizes). An English version of this site is available.
