I finally got the chance to drive my 99Mk1 hard
Today afforded me the time to commute home via some very nice, scenic, and low traffic/unpopulated roads. I took the 99 Mk1 911 through its paces and really focused on all the things I would if I were on track, mind you, at a much lower speed. I’ve owned some reasonably well sorted cars, to include one of the best representations of a dual duty 996 Turbo to grace this site from 2007 thru 2011. I documented all the modifications to that car, including the full, 100% functional GT2 conversion done by me. I wrote 10-15 DIYs on subjects like DIY radiator screens to shifter swaps, balancing the wastegate valves, swapping fuel regulators, extensive diy info on aignments and suspension upgrades, brake upgrades, you name it, I’ve likely contributed here, Renntech, and elsewhere.
My point is, I’m familiar with the platform. But I was not prepared for what I experienced today. This car is so light, so nimble, so easy to drive hard. The gearing falls well within the power band and everything just works well. If anything, the 19 inch wheels on the car may detract from what is already a very lively and fun chassis. The M030 suspension is a GREAT compromise from dedicated adjustable valved coil overs and quite honestly, for a 19 year old car, I was amazed at how well it ran through roads that are punishing on corner transitions.
This was a great buy. I am so happy with this little Taco machine.
Couple of gratuitous pics of my other 996s. And a few of my 944, Petunia included. I”ll be racing her in NASA SP1 this year!

Not at all. Getting her out of my life gave me freedom! Talk about an abussive relationship! Oh wait... I forgot I copped that name from the real Sasha in my avatar! No, the GT3was a nice ride, but honestly I never connected with that car.
