PTS green coupe. 1 of a kind?
I recently acquired a 2001 c2 6mt coupe with the L998 color code and natural brown full leather with 38k miles. I had been between a 996 and a cayman S and this car literally just fell into my lap. The first drive in it I fell in love, and ironically the very same day a Cayman S was listed in my area and I got to drive it as well (first time ever behind the wheel of a Cayman). After driving the Cayman, I knew the Carrera was the car for me.
Being a L998 color code car though, does this mean it's most likely the only one ever painted this color from the factory in the world? In my research I'm very surprised to find very few PTS 996's. Does anyone know if this was because Porsche didn't approve many requests for the 996? Or simply that many people didn't want PTS at the time? I was surprised to see that the natural leather was actually more expensive than the paint!
Unfortunately I haven't been able to drive the car a whole lot as the day I got it she went in for ims / clutch / cooling system and then the crappy weather hit, but I did manage to grab a few pics of her in that time

I think we can say, safely, it's 1 of X. (Single digit.) I would buy 1 of 1, but I keep second guessing myself because the world is a big place. Perhaps very safe to say 1 of 1 in North America. Well bought, sir! Not for everyone but I am digging it, too. I've got kind of a soft spot for green 911's

I am a real fan of PTS Porsche cars having owned a few over the years, sometimes the story behind the color choice is as interesting as the cars themselves.

Thank you for the positive comments! As a diy'er I'm looking forward to becoming quite active in this group and can't wait to start tinkering in the spring. I'm currently planning on leaving the car 100% stock which is hard for me but I think the appropriate thing on this car.
Strangelove, you make a good point, the world is definitley a big place! It's also kinda small though at the same time haha. I had heard rumor years ago that when getting a COA from Porsche, that if you had a 1 of 1, they would tell you at that time of that. I've never been able to find out anything else since though.
Nein, I was honestly not expecting to feel that way at all!! Dare I say the Cayman felt like a VW in comparison? I will say the Cayman is more fluid in a bend, but to me that just meant it was more boring? My 996 is much more tail happy and eager to calmly oversteer than my 993 which I find interesting. guessing it's mostly due to the coilovers and good tires on the 993, but the 996 still just feels like it's been designed that way. Will really know with the new tires in the spring as the current ones are pretty old. Going back to the 911 vs Cayman though, the 911 felt like a muscle car compared to an economy car. Cayman is still a great car, but it just didn't feel what I'm use to a Porsche feeling like.
UScarrera- beautiful car you have there!! At first I was going to guess Continental Orange but definitely looks to have more Miami in it haha. Is it a L998 color code? If so, maybe you share the pain I have in not having a name for the color on your car haha. Do you know the story behind yours? Mine was actually a Local car and it was the first Porsche ever bought by the original owner. His good friend however was a massive Porsche but from show cars to racing and I beliveve convinced him to order it this way. Still trying to track that guy down as the original owner is no longer with us.
Jllphan, it actually was painful hahah. Took me almost 3 months from negotiating a deal, to being able to drive it due to lost title and a host of other things ha. But fortunately I am okay and while the verdict is still out, hopefully it was worth it haha.

I have the COA that lists paint code and "Paint to Sample" statement, I too do almost all my own DIY projects, these are great cars once sorted and it looks like you are on the way towards that end.

That is one amazing looking car! I very much like the more unique colors, since shades of silver seem to dominate the marketplace a different color really stands out. Good luck with your new purchase!

Funnily enough I saw another 996.1 this AM with an even lighter shade of green, sort of Lime. No way to know if it was an original PTS color of course.
Whats going on with the second color in the air intakes? Never seen that before on any 996 I recall.
