Binned my Fabspeed intake
When I bought my 996 last Jan the previous owner was upfront about getting an occasional CEL with codes 1123 & 1125. He suggested it could be the MAF sensor, as did the Indy shop that did the PPI. When I got the car delivered there was no CEL but with 70K miles decided it couldn't hurt to put a new MAF on anyway. After putting on a couple thousand miles I got the CEL with the same codes. Car was running great, but I wanted to get the CEL checked out all the same. Took it to NARW here in Reseda (great guys). They smoke checked the motor for vacuum leaks and reported it was tight as a drum, no leaks. They had 2 theories about the 1123/1125 codes. The codes were indicating it was running lean. They said one possibility was bad O2 sensors or that the Fabspeed intake was throwing off the MAF as it doesn't have the little air return elbow that the stock intake has, causing turbulence around the MAF. Since I had the stock airbox included with the car when I bought it I removed the Fabspeed and put the stocker back on. Didn't cost me anything (as opposed to new O2 sensors) other than 15 minutes with a couple screw drivers to switch it out.
This was about 4 months ago. No CEL in 2,000 miles so pretty sure the FS was the cause. Wanted to post this up. There may be other folks with this issue and maybe it'll be of some help.

Some residents of this forum are pretty vocal about CAI’s being more trouble than they are worth - with the one exception being the Evoms unit.
Good info though....

My problem was mechanical. The cone interferred with the oil fill cap. A loose oil fill cap will pop a code. Luckily I found it before spending $500 minimum at a dealership.
