Got those orange plugs 273-1P now what?

I agree but why not take out the silencer and plug it there and then plug the tb hose that goes to that and you would actually be doing something with about the same amount of labor and cost

Simple answer to that. If you took the "silencer" block out it would create a larger hole in the airbox. The silencer block is the same part as the tube neck that comes up through the airbox which you plug with this orange plug. I took apart my airbox today to verify this and if you removed the silencer the orange plug would be too small to work anymore, you'd need some sort of larger size, or well maybe some duct tape or foil as someone mentioned previously...

I've thinking about this for a while... I seems that the hose that gets blocked with the orange plug by-passes the MAF sensor. If you block it, all air is forced through the MAF. But, why does the factory have air by-pasing the MAF? Ideally, you would want to pass as much air into the eng. Therefore, I would say that if you could somehow cut the silencer open but keep the hose unplugged, you would get the benefit of more noise and additional air flow into the eng. How does the MAF adjust for air passing behind it? Comments?

Actually what I saw was that the air that bypasses the MAF and goes into the silencer has nowhere to go. The silencer is just a closed plastic box, it doesn't vent into the main airbox so air can't really go around the MAF it just creates some sort of backpressure into the main airflow by allowing some additional dead air space, but not a different directional flow. Of course plugging the larger hole created by removing the silencer and replacing the factory rubber hose with bypass with just a straight hose would be the most effective and that's what solutions like the Fabspeed intake mod do, although for the life of me they seem way over priced for a plug and a hose, that ought to be $10 at Home Depot...

I may be wrong but......
these orange plugs look an awful lot like a Dick Hoffman supercharger.
Aren't the guys selling these plugs worried that Dick Hoffman might have a team of lawyers waiting to sue them for patent infringement?

my 'free' niagara caps arrived yesterday. it took all of 5-mins to install. wow! is all i can say. combined with the new ghl mufflers, at full-chat, this thing sounds bitchin!
it's a matter of time before niagara catches on and discovers sample requests from 996 owners with no intent to buy
i don't believe they sell in quantities less that 500 or so...

FWIW, I made my own plug this weekend from the bottom of an empty plastic jar of peanut butter (JIF). Just eyeballed the size, made it so it would lock against the inner lip in the rubber tube. As was mentioned before, with the GHL mufflers, it sounds really NICE! Probably worth 200HP

I saw the site showing how to install 1 cap. Is that all you need to do, or is there another place to install the second cap?

6) It's Free!
5) We've got nothing better to do
4) Those guys from "Queer Eye for the 996 Guy" said we needed more orange in our engine compartments.
3) The somewhat elevated engine noise can now be heard over BOSE audio system.
2) It makes our intakes "suck" more.
And finally the #1 reason:
1) 996 owners are technically challenged, so if Martha Stewart can do it, 996 owners can do it too! - Episode 37 Martha makes fabulous holiday intake decorations using Kruger industrial smoothing plugs.
