Default Symptoms of bad RMS?

Hi all,

I'm shopping for a 996, and I was wondering what the symptoms of the RMS issue were? Is this something you can see? How will it effect the drivability? What should I look for?

thanks,

Couple of drops like quarter size kinda in the center and behind engine. Doesn't affect drivability but without doing nething can lead to accellerated clutch wear from what I heard from the forum. Regards. Mike

Just make sure you get a PPI. The mechanic should put the car up on a lift and it will be readily apparent that the RMS is leaking. Also, you probably will notice a faint odor of burning oil whenever you get out of the car after a drive.

Regarding RMS failure - the clutch action on my 996 at 48,000 was becoming decidedly stiff. With the failure of the RMS, oil was deposited on the release mechanism and gummed up the action. The new clutch has transformed the car and it is now as light to use as a small VW. Shame it didn't cost as little as a VW!
