I just did this too, and it went smoothly, thanks for the guide.

Two minor tips: to open the key, I was able to squeeze it from the sides, and provoke a little crack next to the metal, where I could insert the screwdriver and pop it open. Secondly, the little circuit board isn't installed so much as dropped in, it isn't held by anything until the two halves go back together.

I have to say that for the price, I was a bit disappointed that the silver strip is just painted plastic. I though it was aluminium, but sadly no.

 

 

Based on this, I just ordered one from Sunset for $133.00.

 

This is NOT TRUE. Your key will NOT fit in the ebay link...I know because I bought both and even after heavy modifing the ebay key does not work at all.

 

 

Just did mine. Previous owner gave me the second key that was trashed. Put new fob on it and all is good.

 

I upgraded to the GT Keyfob....looks great and easy to do for both keys. 997 Keyfob upgrade does not work...I tried this.

 

 

So the "911" key will or will not work with a one button '99 key pill? I would be transferring everything over like the original poster, not asking the dealer to reprogram.

 

If your current key works then transfer over the circuit board and pill into the "911" key and youre good to go

 

i can also confirm it is that easy....i love the key.

 

A couple of questions:
- does the pill need to be in one direction or the other (i.e. clear or green end in certain place) or is it ok as long as it is just in there?
- to test, if I take the pill out and say, leave it in the house temporarily, should the key work and start the car?
- mine does the thing currently where pressing the fob buttons results in the 911 light staying on - assuming the pill is in, the directions below should remedy the situation? And if they do not, i need to see my dealer?
