If you're like me and still enjoy a book rather than scrolling through massive PDFs, I've just received this via Amazon.
I'm also very much a newbie with spanners etc. but keen to learn understand and start on small things. Hobbyist, not mechanic. I've got mates who are mechanics...
Looks great at first glance. 1024 pages crammed with diagrams, photos, descriptions, lists, codes etc etc.
All of which I'm sure is findable elsewhere via Google and YouTube. And I'm sure it's not perfect or have everything you might need to know.
But I like a book.
And I don't mind paying good money for a good product - and it's good. Pricing on Amazon.
Here's some sample shots to give you the flavour...(sorry about the orientation of some shots - can't edit once uploaded)
I've had Bentley manuals for every VW Audi and Porsche I've ever owned , excellent books .
They use a 3.4 2001 for most of the examples , and I've got a 3.6 2004 so not everything lines up . They cover most of the 3.6 differences
it's still a great book .
It's an excellent reference book and helped me tremendously when I was doing my engine work (timing chain pads, IMSB, water pump, thermostat, oil pump piston/spring etc...). It should be noted that there are sections on the 3.4l and 3.6l M96 (intermingled) - it's easy to confuse them and they are slightly different (cam cover bolt pattern and tightening sequence for instance...) so you do need to be careful. I went through the manual prior to doing the work and marked the relevant pages/sections with post-it notes, so I could quickly reference them while doing the work - it would have been a nightmare trying to find that information with gloved/greasy hands if I hadn't marked the sections prior...** I also used the Knowledge Gruppe 996 tightening torque book extensively - it's smaller and easier to access (especially while working under the car on jack stands...).
