I am still going with the alien living in my sump. Once I have my oil analysis back, I will get the sump pulled and see what is living in there. If it comes out and takes over the world, my bad.
Can you arrange to get the sump removed in Hamilton rather than near Toronto please.

Lets say it was carbon, so what does that mean? [edit: it totally crushes like carbon]

PS none of this was in the filter, only in the oil from the sump.

Subscribed because i'm curious, hopefully its good news and just a carbon deposit or byproduct of combustion.

I'm very interested in the "going electric" part. Can you please tell us a little more about this switch or post a link for more info on this? TIA

Well, more to the point, what do I do about it? A couple of serial oil changes? A bunch? Complete rebuild? Drive it until it smokes?

To be honest I'm not too sure, the engine guru
I'm sure will be able to provide some more advice.

Personally I don't think two bits of carbon would warrant a rebuild but maybe two shavings of metal would.

You drop the sump and inspect, and have an oil analysis done.

if there's nothing in the oil sump or in the used oil analysis report, put it back together and keep driving

So...drive it 'till it smokes?

The oil has gone for analysis. I will wait for the report before dropping the sump. The mornings have suddenly gotten too cold for the tires anyways.*

*please, no discussions of tires. I would like to restrict this thread to discussions of the Alien living in my oil sump.

Didn't you just have this thing fitting with some sort of IMS upgrade as well? IE a perfectly good engine now on its way out from a questionable procedure?

No. The engine is an MB Motorsports rebuild that was installed by the PO in May 2015. The engine has a "roller bearing" IMS bearing. I don't think my current issues are related to the IMS bearing, but the oil analysis may shed some light on that.

My concern is the whole "carbon" thing. I have records going back to the install. About 15,000km have been put on the engine since the rebuild. During that time, there have been 4 oil changes. So why is there "carbon" in the sump?

I am sticking with my alien theory.
