Default lowered 996 need new front and rear tires.. what sizes?

fronts are currently

235/35 ZR18

rears are currently

285/30R18

I want to purchase the HRZ III tires from tire rack but I don't see this tire available in the same front tire size as what I currently have.. Should I change the front tire size to something different? The car is a 2001 996 lowered 1 inch and has HRE wheels.

I would get the 225/40/18. Might be a little stretched though if your front wheels are 8.5" wide. What are the widths?

I would call tire rack and ask; their customer service is normally pretty knowledgeable.

Well you have two options the 225/40/18 or the 235/40/18. Downside to the 235/40/18 is the sidewall will look a little thicker than the 225 but will be a little smoother with the higher profile.

225/40 and 265/30 make a nice combo. I don't know that you could tell the difference but 225/40 and especially 235/40 are going to make the 285 rears a smaller diameter than the front. Performance wise, 225/265 will be a good balance between front and rear.

I think you would be better off to buy the right tires from a mfg that makes them in the right size. No tire is going to be so beneficial you have to use wrong sizes. They are going to be worn out in 10k mi anyway

For street tires, I'm using 225's & 265's Sumi HTR Z III on 8" and 10" wheels on my 996. They're a good choice (brand & size) for the street. Just go with those sizes and be done with it.

For serious? Tires make ALL the difference. They are your car's only point of contact with the earth! And the Sumi's hit a sweet spot of high performance and low cost. They are well worth figuring out a the right sizing combination for.

Yes. But I just tried to upload it and this wonderful new format won't let me do it. IB sucks.

My car is lowered and there are no clearance issues.

225/40/ZR18
285/30/ZR18

Those would be the 'standard' size but I don't know what rims you have.
