Default Air compressor recommendation?

Gas/electric, size, power, features, etc.

Minor garage work, tire inflation, maybe some air tools, etc. Any suggestions for something small and simple with good reputation?

Thanks!

Eric,

I have a pancake electric compressor (2 hp/6gallon) and it does all my need with my impact wrench. If you buy an impact wrench, get a good one (porter cable or ingersoll rand) that has at least 400ft/lbs of torque.

I bought my compressor at Sears, occassional they have them on sale (probably for about $275-300).

Eric,
If you are just going to use it for an impact wrench and filling tires then a small compressor will do. An impact wrench really doesn't use much air. If you want to use a rotary cutting tool or a drill then you will want something much bigger. Tools that run constantly rather than in short bursts require much more air. My advice would be to get the biggest one you can fit in your garage. You can always grow into it later. The down side to a big compressor is, of course, portability.
