Question Steering Oil

I noticed the steering oil (the black dipstick on the right of the engine oil is steering oil, right?!) is not up to the level mark, neither in hot or cold temps..

The manual is in german and i cant understand what to do to level it up, should i add oil in hot or cold engine temp?

Moreover, it says Pentosin CF11S or smthg.. Is there any equivalent oil i can add to top it.. Regular power steering oil from a station wont do? Any spec i should look for?

Thanks,

Waz

I check it when hot. The level was low on delivery, something that the pre-delivery inspection failed to note, and the service department gave me a whole can to sort of makeup for it. You should be able to get the can from Porsche dealer. Be careful when topping off. It takes very little to go from just barely at the tip of the dipstick to overfull.

Don't know. I'll check on the can when I get home and give you the brand, grade, etc, and you can see if you can get the same thing elsewhere.

I would not risk buggering up the power steering by using anything other than the Pentosin... it is a synthetic hydraullic oil and they obviously spec it for a reason - make sure you get the right Pentosin... I think they also make a CHF 7.1 or something that is not compatible with the CHF 11 !!!!!

You should be able to get this at any supply shop that deals with VW/Audi/BMW - it's spec'd in a lot of those cars as well..... I recall having to get some years ago for my 944 when putting in a new steering rack - I was told I was crazy if I used anything else....
