Default 993 turbo brakes

My brake discs have done about 400 road miles and about 15 emergency stops from around 200mph.

Apparently the cracks are bad and the discs need changing. Worryingly the front pads (which are OEM stock) which were new with the discs are 75% worn just from those stops.

When I was doing the stops at the airfield there were lots of flashing lights in the dash, ABS light in particular.

So it seems that the stock set up is not up to the task of emergency stops from 200mph without toasting itself.

Can people share their thoughts on the above and also opinions on the current best brake packages for the 993 turbo able to withstand big abuse ?

What ABS fault codes were stored?

There weren't any !

I was wondering if it was because the wheel speed from the ABS sensors was too high and out of range ?

I think most use Giro discs as an upgrade interns of rotors for track use as the first upgrade/replacement rotor, with track pad of their choice. I switched between plagid yellows and stock for track vs street (with giro discs). The yellows are pretty noisy for street use. With a little weight loss, this was pretty reasonable performance vs cost. I've heard of Stoptech 355mm brakes on our cars at tracks where the owners seemed happy. I haven't seen much else. Brembo have 355 or 380mm kits that I considered. I've heard of custom 996 and 991 cup brake set ups adapted for our cars but no off the shelf kits afaik. These are upgrades just for the fronts, and people stick with stock for the rear. The hat design with the E brake, there's not enough space in the rears to make 'floating' type of replacement rotors. The RB ccm brakes I have, I'd need more time to comment about durability, so far so good. I'm not doing 200 mph -0 stops though!

Thanks for the info, the Girodiscs look at good candidate, I'm looking at what Endless brake pads can do for me, their ones I have on the 997 PCCBs are superb.

The giro discs are 2 piece floating design and are lighter than stock. When they wear out, you can just replace the rings and reuse their aluminum hats. Making them pretty good price/performance wise.

I have been looking for replacement rear discs, there are a few manufacturers now, all look to be tier one companies which makes the choice difficult.

Check out the pricing in the link below, the Brembo offerings are listed at £53 each , that seems wrong surely Brembo should be one of the best, why so cheap ?!

What is script with Jurid, they are the most expensive and a lot more expensive, are they better in some way ? for reference genuine Porsche discs are £143 each.

Comments welcome

This.....Bigger heat sink is where I would start. I would use the thickest/tallest rotor I could fit under the wheels.

Ducting would help some too.

I went with factory rears, I was tempted by the OEM German made equivalents but the genuine ones weren't that much more expensive at £145 each, I'm hoping the Endless MX72 pads will work their magic
