My search for that Yellow Turbo
A few updates. I know I said that I would never buy a 996TT, but I did come close to get one. I was working on a Speed Yellow 03 996TT with no sunroof and really no options, when the dealer ended up selling it from under me three days before I got my finances together.
It was fate I guess, it was the perfect turbo for me. NO SUNROOF, DAMMIT.
So at this point, I have resigned myself to getting the 993TT WITH sunroof. Some of you might ask, what is the big deal? Well, it is a big deal if you like to track your car and you are a 6'2" guy with 32" inseam, SUNROOF SUCKS.
Anyway, I was planning on leasing that 03 TT, but since that fell through, I am back to the 993TT fold.
I found two yellow 993TT's, they both have about 30K miles, and I think the dealers are asking a few grand more than the going price, so we'll see if I can work it out with them.
My question is, can I still get the Porsche Approved Pre-owned? The website seems to indicate that any car not older than 8 years can have at least the 2 year 100K mile coverage. If so, how much should it cost me? I am asking because the cars that I am looking at are not Porsche dealers, so they are not too familiar with the whole process.
And yes, yellow is the fastest color.
Thanks.
Andy

Andy - I've been keeping an eye open for a SY TT for a while now but still haven't found THE ONE. If you don't mind, I would appreciate it if you could forward details of the car you didn't pursue once you've made your deal.
Good luck and TIA.

PPI
So what does PPI mean then? The Porsche dealer near this exotic car dealer said it would only cost $176, which sounds too low to me.
What does a PPI entail?
What about compression and leak down?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

PPI = prepurchase inspection.
cost from $100-300 here in SF, CA.
a good shop will do compression/leak down.
check clutch and all major components.
look at undercarriage for major damage or poorly fixed body work.
some even go as far as telling you the paint chips on the car!
i would not buy a p car without a PPI.
as for porsche certified used car, the car MUST be sold by a porsche dealer. it costs the dealer about $2-3k to put the car through the program.

This is Jack's old 993TT... Wow, what a car. I would have liked to have this one:
He sold it to another rennlister ( vinrey ), perhaps he'd like to sell it at this time? I think he bought it about 2 years ago. He hasn't been on the board in a while.

From my experience, a PPI at the dealer will not include a compression test. You will need to go to an independent for this. Good luck. A Speed Yellow TT is also my dream car. When you get it, you will have to take a Malibu Run with us!!

Guys,
The other 993TT with painted to match seat back is a 97 with about 30K miles.
The contact information is:
985-386-7732
Good luck to your SY 993TT search. Hopefully everything will work out with no surprises, and I can have my SY TT.

It is a dealer, I just didn't want to come off like I was advertising. The car is priced a little high, but it does have sports seats with painted yellow back.
They are across the street from the Crescent Porsche dealer in LA...
Good luck.

993_996_enthusiast,
So, are you going to get the car? And is it as good as the sales guy said it is?
993TT with painted yellow back and sports seats are pretty rare...

I am waiting on basic information from the salesman which he did not have in his notes. After several days, he admits that the car is secured/stored at a location 60 miles from where he works and someone reliable will have to go get the information from the car. Hmmmmmm, why do they make things so difficult? I guess their network of dealers and storage is spread about...
How is your deal proceeding?
