Default Found a car maybe

After seeing ca993twin's car, I am digging the arena red on 993 TT. Not sure I like this color on 996TT, but it looks great on this car.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=10156

Anyway, here is one for 66.9K I may go see because it is close to me. I have read all the stories on Schmitt and etc. so not interested in that. I will have car checked (PPI) before I take the time to go see it.

Questions I would appreciate help with:

(1) Any trouble spots like wiring harness and etc. I need to ask about;

(2) Any recalls I need to inquire about to see if done; and

(3) Any problem areas I should look at and make sure PPI looks into.

I would appreciate any info. and any other out of the normal inquiries I might shoudl make.

Doug,

Be aware that many people have had "interesting" experiences with this dealer. If you have a strong interest in this car, I would definitely go see it in person, get a PPI and work out all details of the sale in person. Looks like a wonderful car at a decent price if everything is as it appears.

Good luck,

The car has been listed repeatedly on Ebay, with only one bid each time (suggesting to me it is the dealer or associate). I had an experience with these guys and I would warn you off them. This is admittedly just my opinion, so take it as you will, but I think they are going to screw you if they get the chance, or perhaps they are just stupid and have no idea about cars (though this is likely too charitable). If you do decide to pursue, absolutley look at the car, get a PPI - and not at the place they recommend, find another on your own from this site - and make sure you have a body shop look at it, check the paint thickness, etc, etc...

Doug,

The car looks great, and is priced very nicely. Just go into this deal with your eyes wide open... they will look for a way to screw you, so plan for the worst. If it were me, I'd buy a round-trip ticket and and inspect the car, have it professionally inspected, and know you are dealing with a dealer that others have had issues with. At the slightest smell, hop that flight home.

Doug

I ran a car fax on this car for you. "5" previous owners, sold twice at auction. Also interesting and I am not sure how significant this is but the car has been registered as a commercial vechicle by one of the owners??.. Thats alot of history, added to the comments I have heard on schmit this one has alarm bells ringing in my mind. Best of luck in your search

Thanks for the heads up everyone. I have heard or read all about these guys and they are very pushy which is a big turn off to me. I would definitely go through it with a fine tooth comb so to speak. I just love the way this car looks in Arena red.

Brian: Very cool of you do that. 5 owners is a very interesting history. It may be one of those deals that seems too good.

I'm the 4th owner of my car. PCNA owned it for the first year, where I think it was on the car show circuit (its a very early build... 3/95), I spoke to the 2nd owner, and bought it from the 3rd owner. Not always a bad thing.

For what it's worth, I ran across a "commercial vehicle" designation and found out that the dealer had leased it (not an end-user buyer, but the dealer). May have been a demo. Dunno for sure.

Good luck.

I have read lots of bad stuff about these guys. And they won't let you do a PPI without a deposit, and if you decline the car getting tghe deposit back is hard to impossible, according to the articles and posts.

Frankly, even if the car was great I don't think we should patronize dealers that try to rip less informed folks off.

See this article on them:

He learned everything he knew from his dad Charles Schmidt, also a high end used car dealer in St. Louis. I'm not sure, but I think he is out of prison now after serving several convictions.... RUNNNNNNNNN....
