got 96,000 miles on mine - did just have a major motor/tubro rebuild . Car is fast as all get out - wouldn't trade the mileage - drive it every day

When I purchased my car 12 years ago, I immediately 'wrote the money off' as cars depreciate, which i guess it probably did.

I think condition is everything and they cost a lot of money to keep in top condition REGARDLESS of mileage. May as well enjoy it!

I keep telling myself that I will sell everything and keep the GT3RS.... smart and simple.

But alas, i have stepped off the deep end and now admittedly have a hoarding problem. :)
I want to taste all the Porsche flavors and love hunting them down.
Trouble is, i just cant part with them....

I prefer drivers so I can get to know each of them without too much guilt.
(The high price garage queens make me feel bad when i get them dirty.)

993 is a fantastic drivers car. Would love to have one in a Turbo just to scratch the itch... But the advertized prices observed on ebay and cars.com have current owners raising prices beyond realistic... :(

Sort of related, but I can't help but think the spike in 993TT prices is pushing all WB 993s up as people want the look or can't afford the new tt price.

The gap between narrow body and wide body has increased in the last few years. Three C4s for sale in Western Canada are $85k, $99,300 and $105k cdn. (Autotrader.ca) A nice Canadian manual c2 narrow body coupe can be had for $45k to $55k.

Sure! With current trends, 993TTs are naturally going to be $800k propositions in a year or two.

It's just a car. Not a 959, GT2, or F40. Nutters should be swooping up e36 M3's and Volvo 850r's at this froth.

these cars need to be driven and maintained. They are NOT investments. Kiss your money goodbye if you are in this market.

Especially the $300k 3.6 964s and $400k 993TTSes. I don't know how someone could expect to make money on those, except as part of the Greater Fool approach.

What exactly is surprising about a $400k Turbo S? All things being equal, is one $250k better than a regular old turbo? No, not really. But we all know how the game is played; there are countless threads in the NA forums discussing the finer points of SEATS. Exclusivity has no limit.
Not that I'm placing it in the same company but look at the F40 for comparisons sake. Obviously, the F40 is worlds away in price (they STARTED out in $400k realm when new which is over $800k in today's dollar). No one bats an eyelash at the $1 million plus transaction prices for even the well worn examples. Over 1,300 were made, or 7 times the production numbers for 993 Turbo S models. You could fill a freight elevator in the plant I'm currently working at with all of the 993 Turbo S owners. Top dog Porsche of its time: check, last air cooled Porsche Turbo model: check, very very limited numbers: check. Adds up to me.
Yeah, there are "pockets" of pricing bubbles sprinkled throughout the air cooled world; unnaturally inflated by the true blue chip cars. It's obviously my opinion, but I don't count the Turbo S as a bubble.
