Default TT service

I am almost ready (this is my fifth almost ready) to finaly get my TT. I have some questions and I could really use the boards help -

1) What is involved in the 30000 mile service and how much should it cost at a dealer vs. independent shop

2) Do all TT's come with supple leather standard and do all sport seats have painted backs?

3) Can anyone suggest a shop in the Cranbury N.J. area. Even better does someone live near there (where ever Cranbury may be) who might look at a car for me. thanks Mike W

This is a major service, since it involves everything the 15K does and changing the spark plugs too. Here's an informal list of things that I would get done. Note, not all the items are listed in the 30K service, some are more preventative.

transmission oil change
front diff oil change
oil change + 2 oil filter change ( INSIST on 15w50 and NOT 0w40 )
Pollen filter change
spark plugs
distributor caps/rotors
fuel filter
replace all 3 belts
replace air filter
check power steering belt
top off misc fluids ( winshield, battery, etc )
check brake pads/rotors
clutch slave cylinder flush
brake fluid flush
read out fault codes ( requires hammer )
check wiring harness
replace power steering fluid
general visual inspection

Most of it can be done yourself, depending on how brave you are..

Costs over in the bay area ranged from $1000 at the dealer to $1800 at an independent. The $1800 number is more correct, since the parts alone are about $500 and it should take a good full day, or a day and a half to complete properly.

Just be on the lookout about a month after you do your service for any strange smoking issues. That's usually when it starts to happen.

Usually after a big service ( or any service that involves an oil change/filter change ), this happens:

Easily fixed but just a bit frightening the first time it happens.

Reference question #2, for USA spec cars.

Supple or draped leather was an option for this model, code 982 ($398 for the front and rear) and yes, I have seen cars without this option and without the sport seat option.

The sport seats had a hard dark colored shell back made of ? and the option to paint to match the exterior color.

My sport seats do not have the supple leather and the back has sort of a carbon fiber look.

When do you replace the turbo hoses, if not at 30,000 miles?
