Default how tight has to be the alternator pulley?

I had a broken alternator belt last week and I followed the diy to replace it. When I first unscrewed the pulley, I had a hard time because it was very tight! When I put it back on, I put back the nut and turned a couple of turns to have the belt move 1/4" as stated but the nut is far from being as tight as when the pulley came out first. How tight it as to be?

Everything seems to run smooth. But does the alternator pulley comes hot after couple of minutes?

thanks RListers
