Default Apparently oil soaked cats can blow a giant cloud too...

(Reposted from deep in my thread.)

In summary, I think that it's safe to say that our hopes of cheaping out and reusing the cats have been dashed. Keep in mind that this smoke is while air gapped with most of the exhaust gases escaping at the turbo flange.

On the plus side, when the car filled the garage with a giant cloud of smoke in about 60 seconds, I was pretty freaked out. Seeing this was a great relief. And in truth, I figured that we had no better than 50/50 odds of not having to replace them.

Keep it running for a few of hours to burn the oil out and you should be good to go.

It's tempting. Logistics are a challenge, though. It's been stored for a while, and it will have to pass emissions before it's re-registered.
