Default my first DIY on my 993TT

Just got a check engine recently and I got those codes. I guess the 02 sensors are out... Any tips or last minute objection before I go?

By the way, I have to order the parts. Any particular online places I should go?

thanks

meh, i'd check your engine grounds. chances are both 02s haven't **** the bed.

i order from sunset imports in oregon if i want to go through email and sonnenporscheoemparts.com if i want an online catalog. Parts.com is a back up, as is suncoast.

I also realized it smells gas when I am driving ... help appreciated.

@Quadcammer: can you point out the grounds? Or just give me a basic idea where to look and how many. Already found one...

I had a similar problem and the one that did the trick for me was on the drivers side rear shocktower or thereabouts. If you have a long extension and a swivel its not bad to get to without removing the IC.

If it smells like gas, I spose you could have an issue, but seems odd.

Hows the car run?

at start, it hesitate a little between 2000-3500rpm. When hot, no worry at all. Yesterday I had a funny irregular iddle for a moment..

found that link. not the same code but similar to my problem: http://boman993.com/diy-o2/

The ground on the passenger side is tight, let see the driver side..

thanks for your input. always appreciated!

Hi Dom,

For your gas smell, is this only when you're driving? Does it smell in the trunk at rest? I had gas smell in the trunk of a 964. If it's the same, it could be the cap or the hose to the tank.

There is a few threads on gas smell in 964/993 forums, have a look there.

Don't get the O2 sensors just yet. These codes indicate that the O2 sensors are likely performing as designed and reporting a lean running condition at idle/lower RPM. P1128 is for lean running on bank 1, and P1130 is for bank 2. The low voltage code makes sense because low O2 sensor voltage=lean. This highlights the problem with generic OBDII code readers with their vague descriptions and no other reference to what the code is actually telling you. Many parts are unnecessarily replaced.

The usual cause of these faults is intake/vacuum leaks. Check that the boost hoses are fully seated, clamps tight, etc. Check the intake after the MAF sensor and all of the vacuum hoses you can see.

However, the fact that you are smelling fuel raises the possibility of a slight fuel leak being the cause of lean running, so check this first!

If in doubt, take the car to a professional.

oh my! Cleaned the MAF, reattached everything very tight. Went for a 300 miles ride. Everything was fine for the first 200 miles then the car started to hesitate on 6th gear at low rpm. Check engine went off. Finally arrived home and check the car. Got rid of p1128 and p 1130. P0131 was still there and now p0300, p0301, p0302, p0303 (misfire on all 1-2-3 cyl). Gas smell still there. Running lean. It might get to serious for my mechanic skills.

thank you for your input. I will keep you posted after our visit at the P-doctor.

Did you check for vacuum leaks?

If you're smelling gas are you sure you don't have a leak in the fuel rail? Maybe where the FPR is mounted. You can have a leak in the fuel system that evaporates before leaving puddles that you can find. Just a thought and that would contribute to a lean condition.

The fuel smell is not like when you spill gas but more like the car is running lean. After a ride, I smell like I spent a day on Buell... I plan on removing the intercooler and find if there is a vacuum leak.. Any tips?

thanks

rich you mean?

You can take a bottle of propane and before removing the IC, open the bottle and move it along the engine bay to see if the revs flare at all.

+1 on that. If you smell like a pit crew then your car is running rich. Rich is much better than lean. There are numerous ways for exhaust gas to creep into cabin or even come in through an open window. Make sure the flapper valves connected to the heat exchangers are pliable and working. Exhaust can come in through these if they're not in good shape, even to the point where it could be dangerous.
