Hi All, new poster (postee?) here on the TT forum. Also in my garage are a 59 356 Convt. D and an 84 Carrera coupe. I've owned many other Porsches though...
anyway...
Due to paint damage I'm needing to repaint the turbotail on a recently acquired Polar Silver/Dark Grey 1996tt. I went to order a new "turbo" emblem but all I can find is a chrome finish 996 version... the 993 part number seems to have been superceded by the 996 number. The two are different animals though... a 993 turbo logo has a flat cross bar on the t ..... while the later 996 version has a little curl to it. additionally the 993 version was a silver color... not chrome like the 996 turbo logo.... SO... two questions.
Question 1- Does anyone have a suggestion where to find a silver (not chrome) correct 993 turbotail emblem?
Question 2- Any suggestions on the best glue to use to attempt to re-use my original logo emblem once I get it off using dental floss?
Thanks!

The 993 turbo badge is chrome, and is the exact same one as the 996.
I would suggest you dont have an original turbo one but have a turbo s version like this;

As you stated the 996 emblem is what Porsche has updated PET with in regards to the correct part number for the emblem. However it is not the right emblem if your looking for the correct one that came on your car. Unfortunately I don't where to get a new satin silver 993 turbo emblem. Notice in the pic how on the 996tt emblem the cross-line of the T drops down on the left-hand side. A true 993tt emblem does not do that. Also the 993 emblem is smaller than a 996tt emblem albeit only slightly.
If you can order a turbo S emblem then that is the way to go. You can also send your emblem or turbo s if they aren't the right color to the bumperplugs.net guy and he can paint it for you in the correct satin silver color.
I went down the road to get new emblem because mine looks, well, old but had no luck in finding an authentic emblem that was new. If anyone does figure this out please let the rest of us know. I removed my emblem cleaned it up and them used 3m body adhesive tape(carefully trimmed with an exacto knife) and all is well.

The correct one is the one that Basal Skull posted. All the ones I've seen in Europe have this satin finish and with the "straight T". Maybe UK cars were specced differently?
So the standard badge is NLA but the Turbo S badge is still available?

Basal Skull... the photo you posted is exactly the same as my 1996 "turbo" logo... which I believe to be original to the car.
I think I will just remove it with dental floss... and simply reinstall it after re-painting the tail.
Seems odd though that Porsche would have used different turbo script at the same time in different places.
Anyone know if the turbo portion of the 993 turbo S emblem the same size as the regular 993 turbo logo?
Sad to see that parts of these cars are already becoming hard to find. My other cars are mostly 1950's era and thus I am used to digging for parts replacements... and or restoring the parts I have... but for a 17 year old car... well.... to me that is almost a new car and it thus is a surprise that orig parts are already unobtanium.

I went through the same thing about 9-10 months ago. My 993tt came with a 996tt badge that was painted black and finally decided to change it out. So, I order the 993tt badge, which we all know supersedes to the 996tt badge and I installed it. I didn’t much care for it either. I really wanted the original unit, but we all know THAT isn’t going to happen. So, I ordered the 1994 964t 3.6 badge, used the “Turbo” part and ditched the “3.6” part. The script and size is a spot on match for a 993tt, but the color is a little off. It’s a little more chrome-y than the 993 part, but not as chrome-y as the 996tt. I still wish it was an original 993tt badge, but overall I am pretty happy with it.
It’s part# 965-559-221-00 and it was in the $50 range from Sunset. Here’s a picture I pulled from a google search and I can get some actual close up shots from my actual car is you are interested.

here is the turbo 3.6 emblem vs the 993 turbo emblem... with the part number for the 3.6 emblem:

One could sand and paint their original emblem... or, if their original emblem is beyond repair... purchase the 3.6 emblem and sand and paint it.
