Default '96 Turbo Value

Okay guys looking for some of your thoughts on a price range for this car. A '96 turbo with just under 36K miles. Arena red with gray/black interior. All records. A PPI will be forthcoming but assume it's all good. The only issue is it's had a complete respray this past year due to paint peeling during stone guard removal. I would not have believed it but I have seen the pics. The respray was to an extremely high standard. I have gone over it very carefully and I'm extremely picky. if anything it's better than factory. Consider it perfect. Interior is also better than a 9. No wear whatsoever on the leather surfaces and carpet shows as new. So what do you all think?

To me, a respray can be perfect but not better that Porsche factory.

36k is low mileage, considering a perfect respray, I would say 68-70k$ less what the PPI says...

Low miles and respray.... not good. I'm thinking low $60s. For mid $70s you get a clean original car

why would an entire car need to be resprayed because of a stone guard removal?

I have known the owner personally for many years and bought a few cars from him. He is a Porsche Independent shop owner. So I don't question any of this. He wanted to be sure that the fender work matched the rest of the car perfectly and has contacts in the paint field so it was just a decision he made....

For me having this good a quality respray, and in my years of ownership I would say it's definitely better than some factory work I have owned, it's a plus having a car with an as new perfect finish. Regardless, I know it affects value so thanks for the opinions! Much appreciated.

Why the car had a respray can be debated but I can assure you that a respray can be much better quality than factory. All cars are individuals but if you look closely there's a lot of orange peel on the original factory paint. At least on the cars I've owned. I don't think the cars were hand painted at the factory so compare that to a car that has been repainted professionally by hand, then wet sanded and clearcoat etc. Resprays in general are usually not better than factory (depends on the shop) but the factory finish definately leaves room for improvements.

Couldn't agree more. The factory paint is not that great.

I agree - nothing wrong with a good respray - but only if you can confirm why it was done. Have come across too many cars that were described as resprayed when they were actually accident damaged with panels replaced.

Agreed not concerned about the respray, esp if it was done by a very reputable shop, 70K at the lowest.

Just keep in mind cars with 60K plus miles are in the mid 60s range and up.

Generally I agree that nothing is quite like factory paint, particularly because surface preparation is so carefully controlled, then curing is done under heat which can never be replicated. That said, the very word 'respray' does not do justice to the artisan-ship of a really good paint refinishing. I spent a morning at Classic Coach in Elizabeth NJ two weeks ago, and watched a guy polishing a fender with 4K grit wet/dry on a 275GTB restoration. He was sitting in the same stool all morning, and my guide happened to mention this was day 2 working on that one fender. The resulting paint will be an order of magnitude superior to what emerged from the factory.

So you guys have done a great job of providing me with an idea of value. How about taking it one step further as a thought exercise.

The deal I would put in place to acquire the 993 Turbo would have me swapping both my '96 993 tip with about 110K miles excellent condition plus my '88 930 Factory Slantnose Turbo all original pristine condition with 48K miles for the '96 Turbo.

Thoughts? Opinions? Stupid????? Smart????
