993TT Purchase

993TT Purchase
The search continued even after having a broker misrepresent a salvage car and inspecting a "100 pt." car that had collision repairs on 3 corners.
Now looking at:
1996
26,500 miles
CA car
Porsche dealer maintained
Very complete service records, window sticker, keys, manuals
Black/black
Clean carfax with last owner titled for last 14 years
30 day powertrain warranty from the dealer
Carfax states 3 emissions failed entries followed by emissions passed within 30-90 days
Carfax milage drops to 1000/year after 2006
2nd gear sychro to be fixed by seller at dealer
Some wear on drivers seat
Chromed wheels with center caps embossed with Turbo - didn't the 1996's have the Porsche crest. The wheels look like the factory wheels, but chromed.
What do you guys think is a fair price?

Center caps have turbo script. I think the dealers would send the wheels out for chroming when these cars were new. Chroming was more in fashion back then.

The responses are much appreciated. I guess wiki is incorrect stating that 1996 had porsche center caps and the turbo center caps came in 1997. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_993
The ask is high 80s. I don't like the chrome wheels. Like the rest. Living in CA makes a CA car preserved by the dry weather desirable along with being able to inspect/drive before buying a plus. I'll see what the seller will do.

'Some wear on drivers seat'
how does a car with 26k miles get wear on the drivers' seat
'Porsche dealer maintained
Very complete service records'
for what? 15k service? maybe some fluid changes due to time lapse instead of mileage.
'2nd gear sychro to be fixed'
at 26k miles? ouch.
agree mid 70's if they will refinish wheels and nothing shows up on ppi (why three failed emissions at 26K miles? could be related to car sitting without tender/battery issues/readiness codes but would want to verify)

Like msw, I am very curious about the 2nd gear synchro issue. Either the car was abused... or more likely, its been mis-diagnosed. Fixing that is a very expensive, engine-out job. Have the 30k service performed at the same time, and if the car was abused, take a hard look at the clutch. Have you driven the car? Can you describe the transmission symptoms? Rufus (490+ HP) has 132,000 on its original, unopened transmission... shifts like butter. These are VERY robust cars.

Don't screw around with a car with "stories". It's like a box of chocolates...

The emissions failures is generally normal for low mileage cars. Dealer should pay to have the emissions pass if you are in a smog state. Buying these types of cars makes me very nervous. Damage on 3 corners and people still think mid 70's? What kind of damage was it?
