engine great...thx quad

been battling a front end shimmy with braking...worse in 4th/around 3300 rpm down to 2900

not confidence inspiring though

bushing/control arms/new rotors swapped...still there...turned rotors...better for couple thousand miles but coming back.

worse after driving longer...also makes brief/intermittent clunking noise (seems like passenger front end) more noticeable after long drive...and seems like with slow turn

?wondering if some other bushing worn out...when gets warm...symptoms worse?

have also had what sounds like a 'dashboard rattle' for a long time...then my 10 year old figured out it was coming from the gear shift (hold it steady...rattle that 'sounds like' coming from dash gone)...? something in linkage worn.

other than this...hoping she makes it to 500K

Have you ever replaced the plastic cup and ball socket in the linkage? If this breaks, you could be stranded. Look into a Short Shift Kit and Golden Rod at FDM Motorsports... a world of positive improvement, and no large "dimple" required in the tunnel.

clunking may be sway bar bushings/end links or strut top rubber.

How do you accumulate so many miles? How long is your daily commute?

Proves these cars were built to last hundreds of thousands of miles.

And most of these cars still have significantly less than 100K miles on them!

quad: thx for input. will have them check into those possibilities...believe their thinking worse w braking was had something to do w rotors...but original rotors/pads lasted til 225K before new sets installed....and shimmy started about 290K. imo...they were never right...when cold...they would 'ring' when applying brakes (not the usual brake dust squealing...but more of a ring). They replaced those rotors/pads/control arm-bushings...and then when this problem showed up...said i needed new rotors again (?outlasted pads?)...installed those and better but shimmy still there...turned rotors (saying out of tolerance)...and better....but only for a couple thousand miles...shimmy problem returning.

turbo is daily driver...commute to a couple offices from sf to silicon valley and back/forth to lake tahoe...but new to me fcar 575m now getting equal miles...over 8K since picking it up in feb 12....awesome car.

first of all how many miles you drove the first engine and why you choose to change instead to repair it

to answer for him. I think he made it 240kish miles on the first engine. Either the heads or the cylinders had gotten soft or something so it was cheaper to get a replacement engine.

Higher mileage. What was the biggest problem encountered? Did the original engine blow? Or was it just rebuilt?
