If all checks out it would seem that the buyer got a reasonable deal

Actually ... the car sold on eBay but the buyer -- apparently in Hong Kong -- could not complete the transaction.

The owner -- longtime PCA guy -- didn't have time to mess with it anymore, so he gave it to a consignment dealership.

I am getting the car PPI'd Tuesday. I actually had my eye on this car when it went on eBay but wasn't home to bid before the auction ended. I had sent a note to the seller through eBay to contact me if it fell through, but he is new to eBay and I don't think he ever got it.

So, thanks for the heads-up on this. It won't be quite the deal it would've been at $61,200 but it's not too far off if the car checks out okay.

Will post some questions about thePPI shortly.

BTW ... I came close to buying this car; the owner who sold it on eBay had the buyer back out on him. He was too busy to handle all the calls on the car, so he gave it to Rolf's in Summit NJ to sell on consignment. I had talked to David at Oldwick Village Garage nearby to do a PPI on the car; David was recommended by Jerry at EPE, who is very highly regarded in the Boston area. After speaking to David about what he would look for in a Turbo, I felt comfortable with him doing the PPI on the car.

Initially, Rolf was reluctant to allow a compression test on the car in the event that David thought it was necessary. This was not because he thought the car would fail, but because he did not know if the owner would comfortable with the amount of work necessary to do the test and felt he would be responsible if something got damaged (he does not know David). That caused me to back off the car and I wound up committing to something completely different. Rolf called me back to say that a compression test would be fine, but I had already committed.

But I can say that after talking to the original owner, this sounds like a great car, and Rolf's description confirmed that. Someone should snap it up. I had it reserved at $65k ... not quite the price it went for on eBay but still a good price, I think.

The car is still at Rolf's: http://www.rolfsauto.com/1996_Porsche_911_150694920.veh

David's info for a PPI: http://www.oldwickvillagegarage.com/

Good luck!

I had been really torn about coupe vs. cabrio ... this car was the only coupe I was considering. Wound up going over to the dark side with a black 06 CPO 997 cabriolet.

I do miss my old 87 930, so I will get another Turbo at some point. This one looks really nice, only thing I was a little hung up on was the bat phone console and the wood interior, which is factory rootwood and I'm sure cost a fortune, but looks a little odd to me in a 993.

Default Interior

That wood interior is tough to look at IMO but love the white...no doubt.
