Default Top end work questions

I keep seeing relatively low mile (40K miles) 993 Turbos that have had a top end rebuild. Is this a hit and miss thing or is there something more behind this? I don't see nearly as many NA 993's with the same condition, can anyone explain why this is the case?

You've had 993s before and therefore know the valve guides are a crap shoot. Some go earlier than others. Maybe the car was tracked, maybe it wasn't...get a decent ppi and go from there.

I see less turbos with top end work personally.

Thanks. It just appears that there are more lower mile TT's with top ends than NA cars, but maybe that is just a small sampling and not indicative of a problem????

A missed shift can lead to a top-end job, but also a missed diagnosis. I think the 993TTs are VERY robust.

records of the top end would offer some explanation of what happened (i.e. were valves replaced)

Default 993TT

I had a 68k & 120k , both had compression above 135 on original top ends.

I believe it is most likely from missed shifts.

Which is why I don't let anyone drive my car. There are many expensive mistakes on these cars.
