Default Brake pad recommendations

Afternoon chaps,

My pads are coming due, and I'm wondering if there may be a better option than stock for my 99% street driving. I don't mind a bit of squeal on occasion (but prefer it be quiet) and I'd like a little more bite.

I've run hawk HPS+ on other cars and liked them, but they are not well liked here it seems.

What do you guys think?

thanks all

I use stock pads, and am happy with them.

OEM for this kid. I tried Padig and they squealed like a pig. Yanked them after a week and went with OEM pads.

OEM pads here too. Fronts were replaced about a year ago. Bought from Sunset.

What about something that's a bit cleaner? OEM's work great except for the clouds of dust necessitating frequent rim cleaning.

I remember when I got my first 911 I read Bruce Anderson's book. He warned that one needed to be careful about "upgrades" because, in the case of Porsche, they were often inferior to original equipment. I guess I should add that this is info is over two decades old.....Chris

I don't know much about brake pads, but weren't our cars the fastest stopping cars in the World back in '96 & '97? Plus, a non stock pad would; be more noisey, beat up our rotors, and need to have some heat worked into them to reach optimum braking power (and that's not gunna happen as a daily driver).

Pagid Blues are a nice street upgrade from stock. Pagid Black would be the next step up and are trackworthy. Speaking of which, when are you taking that thing to the track?

Front and rear axles don't wear at the same rate but if you go aftermarket you'll need to change both axles even if only one needs it.

Front pads generally wear out at a much faster rate than the rears. I don't know what you mean by axles. ( I personally got rid of my front axles )

you only need to replace pads as they wear out - there is no rule stating that you need to do both front and rear at the same time.

With a floor jack changing 4 pads is about a 25min job (of you have an impact wrench for the wheels).

I use an endurance compound on the fronts in my car, Pagid Yellows, and put Pagid Blacks in the rear, which have a bit more bite. The Yellows up front invariably wear out first regardless - usually at the rate of 2 sets of front for every set of rears. The higher friction pads in the rear serve to add a touch of rear brake bias. I have been running that setup for years and it works great.

Any new perspectives on this, going back to the OP question on what pads for street performance? Is OEM still best for you on street driving?

The ceramics on the "S" are amazing....I never have to clean the wheels. I'd love to put em on the 993tt next time but we all know it would be a can of worms.
