Will be asking Santa for a data logger (have an obd2 gauge but can't data log with it). But my wife keeps saying I've used up my birthday and xmas money for about 20 yrs into the future...(I'll probably just have to have things shipped to my office and pay my secretary to keep quiet)

Another job well done. Will come by to check it out later this week.

Have your future parts ship to my office. You don't need to pay my secretary anything, just let me drive the turbo.

wow

this kind of ups the ante in the "buy a tool (and learn a skill) to complete a project" sweepstakes

Excellent work, you took a major project. Astonishing! Please keep us posted on your datalogging results.

Nice! I'm about to do a similiar project with the same cores.

I'm thinking if data shows this to be a preffered method of cooling with substantial results, someone with some free time and alum welding skills can go into production on these.

If you browse the racing forums there could be someone upgrading their setup so that you don't end up spending a fortune. Better still, I am sure some Rennlister in your area will galdly lend you theirs for a week for some testing!?

Dave, there is a very good thread initated by TB993TT on the 997GT2 forums if I recall correctly..These gen 2 cores are best value for money and their efficiency was not too far off the best out there and much better than any aftermarket tuner's. The VTG watercooled cars run high EGTs and pretty hot in general and these inexpensive ICs are being used on the 620HP RS so should be better than our 14 year old cores provided size and ducting are properly done.

I read the thread...TB993TT was great to have on this board when he was developing his 993, and seems he has not slowed down a bit with his GT2. Must be nice to have pockets of that depth. One of the true pioneers with these cars. I imagine he could teach the engineers at Porsche a thing or 2 with his experience.

The GT2's look cores to have more depth, but less surface area that the stock 993tt IC, I wonder if that plays a part in cooling. Maybe the fact that they don't provide a shelf over the whole engine bay is a positive for keeping things cool too. Excited to see data on this. Clearly the labor involved is intensive, but the cores seem reasonable from a price perspective.

Also interesting would be to know how shrouding affects performance...

I plan on doing the data logging in the Spring and I agree the effect of the shroud would be interesting to look at. I've seen pics of engines where there is a shroud that attaches/ducts the intercooler directly to the engine fan. The problem is looking at things, the shroud/cold air intake needs to be modified for stock vs this cooler and I'll have to keep in mind that to test back to back, it has to be easily reversible which may not be easy to do. The stock shroud can't be used with the gt2 wing and I have one made. I think you also need a good seal between the wing and body. Still lots of variables.

Unfortunately the weather has not been too cooperative and there are now salt on the roads. Will have to wait on the but dyno as well...
