993 Turbo vs 993 C2S/C4S purchase decision
hey Rennlist friends,
I am long time Porsche owner. I have two currently. Both 1972's. One 'period correct' with 2.7 MFI twinplug fun. The other, targa to cab conversion with 993 power.
I am starting to research my 'next' Porsche and would like a 993. Either a turbo, or an S model. This car will be a daily driver. I don't plan to mod it much. So I want the A/C and heat, etc.
But I also don't want a car that doesn't communicate to me. I could by a newer car. But I don't want to. I currently have an E92 M3 as a daily car. But it doesn't
'speak to me'. So clearly I am willing to give up a little practicality in favor of sticking with Porsche and with Porsche's I like.
What is the advice of this forum? As of now, I am leaning towards a 993 Turbo.
Thanks,

I think you'll find most people on this section of the board ended up in a 993 Turbo because it represents a "perfect moment" in the evolution of the 911. The old body shell, aircooled engine, and very talkative steering of a classic Porsche combined with completely modern power, grip, and reliability make for an ideal balance.
For me, that mid 90s era (Ferrari 355, 993, etc), is magic because there are no computers to get in the way of the tactility of the cars, but they are still modern in performance and usability.
I'm only selling mine because I want to spend a lot more time on the track and a Turbo is slightly compromised (though effective) for such work.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks for your reply. Your car sounds awesome. I want black or silver ;-)
St Louis is a neat town. I've enjoyed my visits there.
Good luck with your sale.

Hmmmmmmm.
If you are comfortable with the "feel" of the AWD system, get the turbo.
The only real drawback is it can be frustrating to have so much power on the street and not be able to let 'er rip.

I have owned all variations of the 993 with the lone exception of the Cabriolet. When I finally moved into the turbo, I kicked myself for wasting time with the NA cars. The C4S was my least favorite of all of them; I felt that there was not enough power to drive all four wheels. You should drive all of them to know for sure . . .

The kick of power when the turbos come on song is absolutely addictive. Perfectly usable every day though. If you can afford it, go for turbo. A C4S is really just a wannabe turbo without the power. Sorry, they may provoke a response from the na chaps, but my previous daily drive of 9 years was a 993C4.

Shopping list:
993 C2
993 C4S
993 Turbo
Process of elimination:
- your aspirated 911 needs seem to be well sorted already with the 72 & the cab = scrap C2.
- I see so many C4S owners upgrade to Turbo's, because they only thing they don't have is power = scrap C4S
- that leaves the Turbo......
