My guess if auction doesn't end early: (reserve not met) at $100,000 or so.

Remeber these are small shops that have to take care of other customers at the same time. They can not devote all their resources to building one engine, hence the lenghtly build time. So it becomes filler work when there is nothing else going on. Two years is on the long side for this build. Mine was more like a year with constant prodding. A proper race shop could build this engine in a couple of days including all the head work done in house. But when you are a small shop like S-Car-Go or Protosport you need to send the heads out and by the time they are ported, flame ringed, twin plugged, etc. two months have gone by. Then the fab work of piping, headers, intercooler, wiring harness, etc. can take some serious time.

Also I am not sure why there would be any piping near the suspension system. This car has a rather usunsual (and very well done) heater box system. It uses 996 style headers with no heat an then pipes the exhaust into a heater box in front of the muffler. Suspension issues are more common on 996TT's because of the fender mounted intercoolers.

One of my favorite 993 built to date. Other than its mediocre suspension mods, the build is very similar to mine which also took Protomotive a long times to complete. But man do they know how to build a car to go fast. Too bad he has to sell such a fine car.

Gorgeous car..... Just one item he got a bit wrong, the shaved gutter look is not simply a "Ruf" modification, it was in fact a Porsche factory mod as done to the 959s.... I'm not sure who did it first as the Yellowbird came out around the same time circa 1987 but my guess is the factory tested the mod during the 959 development in the 80s and Ruf got wind of it through its factory connections.......

Would be interesting to note the way the gutters are "shaved"

The car is assembled by mating the roof section with the body at that point and there is a third piece of metal between them that are all welded together. If they are shaved there will be a gap that needs to be bridged. It's not like taking a can opener to the gutters.

^^ I'm sure TB knows this, given the fact he had the gutters shaved on the blue car. Must be pix around here somewhere. I know he posted them.

It's cool and all, but when it rains, you get a wet left nut when you open the door.
In Toby's case a wet right nut.

I'm sorry to report that I had a 912 motor rebuilt here. It took 4 months LONGER than they quoted it ... they would tell me it was being worked on or they were waiting for machine work and then one day I made a 'surprise' visit and my engine was still sitting in pieces on the shelf just like it had been when I had seen it last over 2 months prior. I had to make weekly visits and demand daily progress pictures to get it out of there and the engine had to be torn down again after the first try to get the ring gap right. For what it's worth, this yellow 4S Turbo had been delivered to Alvin several months before my engine project started and each time I was in the shop, the yellow car was there, up on the lift with half it's engine taken apart getting 'fixed' ... Caveat Emptor

That would explain why Alvin sold it and why the next guy is selling it again. Plus I wondered why the pictures of the engine on the engine stand looks different than the one in the car. I would guess they had clearance issues with the original build. Hence the shorter intercooler piping and chopped fan housing with chipped paint on the engine in car pictures. Not to mention the intercooler does not sit straight in the engine bay. Those intercoolers look like two 996TT intercoolers welded together.
