Default Paint Meter?

I buy and sell cars often enough - I would love to own my very own paint meter. Does anyone have a brand or model the recommend?

We use an ELCOMETER 311FNF which measures 0-20 mil (if it is over 20 mil on a Porsche, run).
We use this on all Pre Purchase Inspections, an absolute must.

Search engine the name and they have quite a few models. A couple years back I think this was around $500. Very wise money spent, IMHO.

I'd check with Phil at Detailers Domain, too. They check their cars before every paint correction they do. Great website and solid products.

+1 on elcometer. they are the industry standard, ISO rated, made in Germany and accepted by courts of law etc.
ebay has some made in china for much cheaper.
my elcometer tests ferous and non ferous metals and was around $900 list.

I've been happy with my Defelsko Positest. Easy to use and read.

I just bought one of these and it is fantastic. I compared it with a professional $3,000 meter and the readings were nearly identical! Can't beat it for $225. It is used by many detailer's....
