Default Oil pressure level

hello,
My oil pressure gauge is reading 1 on ideal when driving it well reach 4 even on full throttle it is like hitting a wall when reaching 4, my concern is it used to read 5 or above when driving also 2 on ideal,
I took the car to the dealer they will do leak down test and compression test , I don't know what's the diffrent between the too tests, they told me it's normal considering the car age most of the cars they see read the same , they told me it might be the oil pump. Any input well help.thx

It took me a moment to decipher "ideal"... "idle" is what you meant.

Have you done a recent oil change? What oil (weight) are you using?

I would start with a new oil pressure sensor... they are not too expensive, and easy to replace. Oil pump failure or wear is quite unusual for our cars, but you don't give any details on the mileage or what type of oil you are using.

I don't think this is a cause for panic.

These figures are low. That said, a compression and leakdown test will be useless for this.

First thing I would do is remove the stock oil pressure sender, and put in a cheap parts store mechanical oil pressure sender, running the gauge to passenger side where you can see it. Then you'll get a sense of what the true pressure is. At that point, you can decide to get a new sender, or have your oil pressure gauge repaired.

for reference, at idle, using 15w-50, my oil pressure is right at 2bar @620rpm. Once i hit 3k rpm, its pegged at 5 bar.

The service manager told me that they tried another gauge and it did read the same as mine, so I think my gauge is ok ,I hope now that it's the sensor. I'll change it and let you know.thx

The water-cooled Porsches use 5w-50 oil, and if that is what the dealer used, that may explain the change in pressure readings. How many miles on your car? Where do you live?

Check the oil pressure sender part and connection.

Another thing to check is the oil temperature. Could be that the oil cooler is clogged or not working.

What oil are you using Steve?
To the OP, it will be something simple and inexpensive (unless you live in NZ)
These cars are pretty robust.
Keep us posted though. Plus it might pay to add some photo's and details of your car. It's compulsory.

since we are talking about operating temperatures though, that shouldn't really be the case. a 50wt is a 50wt at operating temperature, regardless of what the W viscosity is (ignoring things like old oil that has sheared)

hmm, did they try another porsche gauge or a mechanical gauge.

I wouldn't feel comfortable going any further unless someone put a mechanical gauge on this thing to see what the true pressure is.

electronics can be funny at times.

I don't think oil viscosity on its own is causing this, with a 0-40 with current temperatures around here still you should be ok unless you are tracking your car. You might want to check running oil temps.

For the track I used Castrol Edge 10w-60 for a long while under 100-120F and it worked perfectly. You should be able to find it in Kuwait or else order it from Dubai. I also used Mobil 20w-50 from Dubai (Harley stores).

Hi ,it has been along day searching for oil all over Kuwait no luck. Most don't have the rating I'm looking for in synthetic oil.. They have it but not synthetic .. About the oil temperature even when the car is cold the oil pressure never reach 5 ..but I'll ask them to check the oil temp tomorrow and cooler although the engine temp is low about quarter even when weather is hot with the a/c on .. The problem is i need oil but couldn't find it so far ..
