Default 993TT still turns heads

I've just recently been driving my 993TT again after 3 years in semi-storage and a recent engine rebuild. It's just amazing how many people ask me about the car.

Recently I brought it into work and two of my employees in their 20s asked me if that was my car (they didn't know I had a 993TT). They said that although my GT3 RS is nice, the 993TT is the car they really think of when someone says "Porsche Turbo".

I can go on about people coming over at gas stops, restaurants, etc.

I'm starting to realize now that the casual car observer doesn't know that Porsche has been making turbos for 14 years since! The 996, 997, GT2, GT3 and other variants just look too much alike. The 993TT, which was only built in 1996 and 1997, was very unique for its time and still is today with its elegant compact size, "fat butt", and "melted" rear spoiler.

I bought mine in 1997 with 12K miles and turned it into a Ruf Turbo R a few years later. I've acquired several cars since, but the 993TT just never gets old for me. I now have 60K+ miles on it and it looks and runs like new. It's a car I still enjoy driving very much. Seeing both young and old people still loving it as much today as they did when I drove it in 1997 is just icing on the cake.

Is this the same Bill S I recall from posts on Ferrari Chat. If so, and I may be mistaken, I recall reading you kept the 993TT among your stable of impressive cars for "sentimental reasons". Never understood what that meant, but perhaps, as your post implies, it just stirs your juices because it has some undeniable appeal, reinforced by admirers. Well, I had had a highly modified 993TT too (about the same as Ruf mods) as well as a 996 Ruf Turbo R and a Challenge Stradale. Let them all go for a 458. But the 993TT comes back to haunt me and I'm currently sniffing around for an elusive combination -- arena red, andial 3.8. Just the same a 993 R turbo grabs my twin brain centers as well. Let me know if it ever needs another home. Otherwisek, enjoy in good health!

Clearly it turns the heads of owners and former owners

I've been toying with the idea of getting a second 993tt; one for the track and one for the street.

Yes, it turns my head!

To my eye, the 993tt remains one of the most exotic looking cars ever made.

Bill, nice to see you post here again.

I know what you mean. When I park mine at the office, I just can't walk away to the lift without that last look back. And with each backward glance, I still find it stunning and so rewarded for the effort.

thats interesting because I've found that my black 993tt flies almost completely under the radar.

It is very rare for anyone to comment or even really look, despite it being fairly loud.

surprising how different the reactions can be.

I get tons of looks and many questions. Amazes me how many people know what RUF means. My car occasionally shows up on Youtube and "exotic spotters" in various sites. Strange, as I really don't drive it much!

I, too, love my Turbo R. Can you please share some more info on yours?

Hey Bill, great to hear from you

I still own my 993tt (AKA it has been for sale on consignment for 2+ years and noone wants to shell out what it would take) and after picking up this https://www.imagineshop.co.uk/bookaz...ate-guide.html at an airport the other week and seeing an awesome review with my 993tt in it, am seriously thinking about bringing it back in to service.
