I just downloaded the latest Top gear. They put a 959 up against the F40.
This is a MUST SEE episode! Both cars are crazy fast..........when they go.
That's all I'm saying about it.

Awesome
Thanks for sharing! and thanks Top Gear for bringing back memories of the legendary car.
Top Gear - trust you gona be showing us - soon, I hope -more flashbacks of those true-to-form Porsche of past, like the 964 and 993 Turbos.
Pardon, post-993 Porsche owners, but you don't own 'real' Porsches

So then if one can't afford either of these two cars and would prefer something equally exciting, well built, exotic and yet more reliable, I reckon the next greatest car ever made is the 993TT. Doesn't that make you feel good? Gee we are lucky.

Shirt or trousers? I actually have always thought both of these cars were not the most attractive cars. But I was always allured by the performance F40 & reviews of its analog and driver oriented experience. That said I was surprised to see the 959 out drag the F40.

A 997 GT3 RS is every bit as much a porsche as a 993 or a 356. To say otherwise is quite frankly ignorant.
If you view the video, his gearshifting was plainly horrible...probably unfamiliarity with the gearbox or wanted to be gentle in a privately owned vehicle.

A friend (actually the guy I bought my 993tt from in '96) imported two 959s and we had a closed track day when they arrived. My overriding memory was of the two stage sequential turbo set up, it was a real hit when the big blower took over, the 993tt is way more advanced with its parallel Motronic system.
I was following one of the cars in my '81 911SC (204hp)
around a fast part of the track when the owner and his three passengers went into a long sweeper too fast and stuffed it into the barrier. Fortunately all occupants were OK and we were sworn to secrecy about the incident. It was a costly day out for that guy !

It can't get past anyway.
Quadcammer. Fair comment re the shifting but even Hammond said had he got it right they would have been neck and neck. Those gates must be tricky even with an experienced F car owner. So why make them like that then?
Always wondered why.

oh agreed, they are very similar in acceleration. Not sure why they still used those gates, especially what I believe to be a dogleg first.
That said, i think the gated shifter is one of the coolest part of ferraris.

The whole "real" porsche crap is just stupid to begin with. The cayenne is a real porsche too.

I had a gated shifter on a previous Ferrari. I found it easy to shift and only intimidating the first few shifts, then very natural. And it never leaves any doubt as to what gear you just down shifted into (have you ever wondered as you were letting off the clutch?).
However, I never speed shift any car as 0-60 times are not my thing.
