Your mainshaft won't get worse unless you go drag racing. If you don't have vibrations or it isn't popping out of first gear, you are good to go. In fact... I question why they think your shaft is bent if it isn't showing any of the symptoms? Relax and enjoy your ride.

The story I heard was that when the 993TT was introduced, Porsche wanted to get a really fast 0-60 time recorded. They hired a well known Porsche race driver (his name escapes my old brain at the moment), and brought a 993TT and a pile of gearboxes out to a drag strip. He went through many gearboxes on his way to a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds.

Sorry for late response. Been out of town. Yes, July '96 is last month of '96 model year production. '97 model year start is August '96. Apparently when they run out of parts they just install the next year's stuff.
