Default Tire size suggestion?

Trying to decide on rears & I'm reading the following options for 19 x 10 Ruf wheels:
285/30, 305/30 & 315/25
Ruf recommends 285's
Opinions on ride & appearance on stock height?
May drop to ROW so they would need to work w/that also.

Any pix?
TIA.

285/30 is the widest tire for the 10" wheel. When I was running 10" Ruf on the rear, I tried 295 and it ballooned out so I went to a 285. You will need 11" wheel for the 305 or 315.

thanks.

How was the gap?
Were you stock ride height?

motobri,

Be careful... if you have an AWD car (993TT, C4 or C4S), then you must carefully ALSO match the overall tire diameter to the front tires, else you wreck your viscous coupler. I have heard that they can be 5% different, but that sounds like a heck of a lot of difference. I would try to minimize the difference in overall height, front to rear.

no more than 4% is what I hear as far as f to r disparity.

Default Your mileage may very . . .

Here is a table I have compiled based on lots of reading, as I consider what tires to go with for DE wheels. Trying to keep an eye on the 4% rule. But using 11" rear wheel for DE set (996 hollows). Surprisingly (to me) that the spare tire actually seems to have the 4% rule in mind on the front or rear.

True, but but I was very cogizant of viscous coupler issues when I chose the meats for the Guap.

Scott,

You must do something about that fuzzy avatar picture. Maybe borrow someone's Canon?

Rufus uses 19" wheels with 11" on the rear. Tire sizes:

315x25x19
255x30x19

If you do the math (I'm too lazy to redo it), these are very close to the stock 18" (285 and 225) overall diameters.

Kein: spare tire is only to be used on the front; if you get a rear blowout you must put the spare on the front and the front wheel on the rear...that is if for some reason you don't want to call a flatbed, which I recommend
for street I run 235/35/19 and 295/30/19 on HREs with lowered supension and IMO looks great with very small gap.

TurboDan. Good point on spare, I must have skipped that part of the manual

I expect it is flatbed / trailer for me, hope to never have to make that call

Since PS2's aren't available in 285's, Opinions on Pirelli Pzeros vs Bridgestones?

Default 295/30-18 PS2

I have used the Michelin 295/30-18 PS2s on my rears with standard rims for some time with the 225/40-18s on the front on street and track without issue. They have lasted over 20K mi. which is surprising on a 993tt on the rear. I prefer them over the Potenzas S02s it used to have.

I was thinking of trying the Continental Extreme Contact DWs which come in standard 993tt sizes at a very attractive price and get good reviews and tests at Tire Rack. One of the members of my club got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus since he wanted Michelins at a lower price point and possible longevity.
