Default Put a deposit on a 97 TT now need help with a few things/Mods

Hi guys,
So after debating between a 1996 C4S and a 1997 TT i ended up leaving a deposit on the 97 TT.
It should be in my hands within the next 2 weeks.
As always there's a few things i would like to do to the car as soon as i get it.
First and most importantly is the stereo/nav.
I'm a huge tech nut and absolutely need to do something about the stock unit.
From my searching it seems that it's impossible to put a double din unit without cutting something and i definitely don't want to do that.
So does anyone know if a single din flip up will work? It seems that it will be very close to touching the vents. So has anyone succesfully done it and if so which unit would be the best.
I'm not too sure which system i have in the car but it has the 6 disc changer in the front and the tape deck in the dash. The code list states that it's the blaupunkt system. Was that the premium sound or the standard one?
Now if there's no way to put a pop up unit does anyone know of a single din unit that has nav, bluetooth and ipod all in one. I've seem a few cool ones with bluetooth and ipod but none with Nav and Nav is really a must for me.

Secondly i would like to change my exhaust tips. Nothing expensive for now just some nice oval tips until i decide what to do with the exhaust come next spring.

Sterring wheel. I have the full burgundy leather interior and would absolutely love to change the steering wheel to a 3 spoke steering wheel. I think i saw somewhere a 993 with a 996 3 spoke steering wheel. Do these fit? And if so where could i get a good deal on those. Will i have a hard time finding a burgundy one? Was that colour even an option on 996's ?

Clear side markers? Can anyone suggest where to buy some clear side markers?
Fog lights. Has anyone attempted to put LED's in the fog light assembly?

Thank you all for your help.

Welcome aboard!

You're supposed to post pics of the car with your introductory posts! You can try the option decoder in the 'general' part of this forum. The first code c36 mean your car is Canadian.

the interior is a bit dusty and a good wash and clean should freshen it up. the carpeting behind the passenger is a bit loose and the carpet next to the gas pedal is patched up with a different shade of red. Otherwise, nice color combo!

Is that Boxster Red? If so you should be able to get a 996 3 spoke wheel in that colour (might be Flaminco red, it aint burgundy anyhow)

The tips you need are the big ovals like these;

FYI, that's not a "patch". It is a factory vinyl area sewn into the carpet for added wear protection.

YouYou, congrats on your new Turbo. Great color combination.

Don't get too hung-up on the radio so soon. Enjoy the great sounds our cars produce naturally, before you decide to start covering it up with music & such.

I have a very nice Garmin Navi unit in my Turbo, on a mount that clips onto the right-side center vent louver. Works great.

One good web site for finding some of the stuff you are looking for is:

www.carnewal.com

Also become a Rennlist Member, so you can see and buy stuff in the Memeber To Member sales forum. You may find a 3-spoke wheel there in the color you want. You'll need both the wheel and a new airbag. The 996/986 3-spoke wheel is a direct fit into our cars. I have a 3-spoke carbon fiber & leather in mine right now. Nice update.

Your Sport Seats are awesome, and highly sought after. I see painted to match seat backs in your future soon!

Enjoy.

I would go with a black 3-spoke wheel. IMHO it will look great and break up the interior colors.

Thanks for the info guys!

So i will definitely be signing up to be member. Seems like a great community here.
I'm an avid user on bimmerpost. I had a E92 335 and then a E93 M3 before getting an S5 Cab that i only kept 4 months ( hated the car ) and then moved on to a 997 C4S Cab.
Signed up on 6speedonline but there seems to be much more action here.
So i look forward to learning lots of things from you guys!

So is my colour chestnut brown after all? Do you guys think i should source out a same colour steering wheel and what are your thoughts if i were to go with a black wheel?

As you can see the mats have completely faded as well. Any thoughts on where I can buy a new set of mats?

For the tips i saw these :993TT MAXFLO Muffler Bypass Pipes with Tips http://www.fabspeed.com/993TT.html

Are they any good and are they bigger then stock?

My mats are by Lloyd - excellent quality. Went with the heavy plush.

http://www.lloydmats.com/

I have the Fabspeed bypass pipes and love 'em. Do a search here on the forum, no one is really neutral on them. I have found that they have a nice resonance at low rpm's and are really pretty quiet at highway speed, you can carry on a conversation easily.

Here is a video of my car to help you gauge sound. Not the best quality but you will get the idea. Plus, easy to switch back to you mufflers if you want to.

I went with the RSR mufflers (search Robin Sun) and the FD Motorsports wide ovals (hard to beat their price point and service!)
