Default Pricing help...

While killing some time the other day I began browsing local listing of cars for sale. Came across a '97 993 turbo with 78k miles. Not really in the market but it got me thinking. Car is my preferred color, bone stock. New clutch at 58k miles. Owner claims no leaks (oil or otherwise). No accidents or paintwork the he is aware of, has been his car for past 6 years without issue. Selling b/c of slow economy.

Obviously the car would need a thorough PPI by my trusted air-cooled mechanic but wondering what forum members think something like this would be worth (ballpark)?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I recently came extremely close to closing a deal on a 993TT and in the process did a fair amount of market research. While I didn't run across too many cars with 50+K on the odometer I would think that something in the low to mid 40's would be fair for a sale price provided everything checks out.

I don't know; those numbers seem pretty low. If the car has a good PPI, no stories I would think the low 50s would be closer. Maybe I am out of touch.

I doubt anything lower then high $40s will close the deal

But like Chuck W. says, more likely the real deal will close in the high $50s

But all that goes out the window if you catch the seller on a "good day"...

Mooty- I am going to keep the GT3. Even my wife thought I was crazy to let it go. I'm thinking this could be a fun daily drive replace the BMW. I just don't know how practical it would be as I really need something that I can throw a couple kids in the back of.

Asking price on the car is in the high $40's, which is what caught my eye. I'm sure a PPI would show something that needs done so I could try to get it in the mid-$40's. Then, since its already got some miles, I won't be afraid to just drive it.

I'm assuming that these cars, like most of the older air-cooled gems, will go forever if properly maintained (past and present). Obviously, PPI is the key. Just hard to see how you could get hurt on a 993 turbo if you can pick up a clean car in that price range.
