Does anyone have this?
I'm looking for a 1996 or 1997 Car & Driver magazine. In the back of the magazine they have (I think) a spreadsheet style summary of cars they had tested. I'm looking for the 70 - 0 braking on the 993 Turbo and the same for the 97 Toyota Supra Turbo. I know the Supra number is 149 feet, but can't find the 993 TT numbers.
It would appear that the 97 Toyota will out brake every road going Porsche from 70 - 0 with the exception of the Carrera GT and it will match the 2010 GT3rs. I was both stunned and disappointed by this.

Steve:
In the C&D July 1995, they have the Supra Turbo (tested 9/93) result but not the Porsche 993 turbo. In the same issue they have the "Supercar Shootout" of 5 cars including the 993T.
Actually the Supra turbo 70-0mph braking is 160feet
In the C&D August 1995 the 993T (tested 7/95) 70-0mph braking is listed as 162 feet

In modern cars with great brakes, the low-speed braking distances tend to reflect the tire choice and the road surface rather than anything too significant. Certainly there is no brake fade from 70 mph! Even 0-60 times are pretty silly... reflects gear ratios, tires, and how willing a driver is to abuse a car.
I have heard that Porsche asked Hurley Haywood to go get a decent 0-60 time for the 993TT. They gave him a car (very likely was Waldo) and a pile of gearboxes, until he got a 0-60 in 3.6 seconds.

I think R&T keeps these variables as constant as possible but there's no way I'd dump my clutch at 6000rpm so I'm happy to have a copy of the performance summary with their 0 -60 in 3.9 seconds test result on my wall. I tell the 997TT guys that this result was achieved with archaic Bridgestones and the 993tt with modern tires might actually be quicker!....ha...

Pramm, this the article my nephew sent. It seems like a fluke as they show the automatic at 163 ft. Same car with same brakes, just an auto trans. Yet 14ft difference.

I'm sure a lot of you think this is silly to care, but when your kid nephew is throwing out the fact that his Toyota can out accelerate, out run, (he makes 636 RWHP) out handle and out brake my vastly more expensive Porsche every time he's over, it irritates me after awhile. I really thought my car was superior in braking and handling.

Brakes turn to sponges at 70MPH. Here's a case of not believing everything you read.
Properly maintained, these brakes stay harder than a ****** heart lap after lap.
Funny thing is, I never, ever saw a Supra at a track day.......

I found a turbo Supra at Willow, when I was still driving my Mustang Cobra. He had crappy R compounds, I had good street rubber... We were pretty evenly matched (ok, ok, I did get a better time).

i bet if more of us cared we'd own some of the many hundreds of cheap 996 turbos for sale as my 993 isn't my 'fast' car anyway, i suppose i'm less bothered by it but I also just don't care for the dynamics or character of the 996 as compared to the 993. the 993 is just a purer, better driving experience imo.
Well, according to Road & Track, whom tested both cars back in the day, the Porsche was much better. The catch is that they tested from 60 - 0 whereas Car & Driver tests 70 - 0. The 993 Turbo stops from 60 - 0 in 99 feet and the 97 Supra Turbo does 60 - 0 in 116. Then according to Car & Driver the Porsche brakes just seem to turn into sponges at 70 MPH. I don't get it.
