Hello. Glad to have found this forum. Currently an m5 owner but stepping
up to the 911 league. I found this 1996 993 turbo with less than 15k miles on the odo. the testdrive was good and fun! the problem is it looks like the whole car have been reprayed since some paint is peeling between the gap of the front fender and hood. I also noticed some chipping of the paint around the sunroof area where the seals/felt on the roof. The price is 60k. Is this worth getting the price down or just walk away? It looks like the car is completely stock. I intend to get a PPI, leakdown test, etc on the car before purchase.
I was told that the resprayed was not due to an accident but some shrubs scratched the car and therefore had the car repainted.
Thanks for all the inputs and have searched the forums for repaint
and found some links.

Max,
As you are obviously aware, a total respray of a 993TT is quite unusual, but absolutely rare on such a low mileage car. Any reasonable owner would be sure to document the respray was due to "scratches" rather than an accident. Lacking that documentation, this car will require very careful scrutiny. If there is any chipping, this would indicate rather poor paint preparation prior to the paint, so I would be further concerned about the quality of the paint job, regardless of the reason. $60k for a 15k mile car is a very good price, but only if you can be satisfied that the car is structurally sound and the paint is OK. If this car is sound, buy it. If not, walk away. I don't think getting a price reduction if you aren't happy with the car will work out in the long run. IMHO.

$60k for a nice 15k mile example is pretty unheard of. Most people are about $10k higher for similar cars.
I'd tread carefully on this car based upon your paint analysis.
i'd want a body shop and mechanical PPI.
Good luck in the search.

Doesn't sound right. However, a good PPI and bodyshop inspection will tell you more than we can. I would plan on spending 12K for a quality paint job to bring it to the level it should be. Even at that 72K for a low milage 993TT isn't bad. I just have a feeling there is more to it. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi again. Thanks for the input. The car resides in the bay area the whole life.
I'm trying to get more info about the re-spray and trying to get that white tag under the hood so i can figure out what options are in the car from factory.
I asked to seller to give me a receipt or the bodyshop who did the re-spray
so I can call them up and ask. I'm pretty sure they remember
the car...911 turbo.
Will keep everybody posted. Any good PPI leads
in the bay area that are geared more on the 911 turbos? How much do
they usually cost? $500 with leakdown, etc?
thanks again.

PPI PPI PPI.
OK maybe you should get a PPI![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I had mine totally resprayed but it had 80k on it. So a 15k car with a paint job is VERY odd. ESPECIALLY in CA. I knew a guy here that had a 30k 96 and he ran it at the track and up the mountains. I could have used a respray but was not bad. And it was Black. So just be cautious.
And hell, a respray is not a bad thing if the price is right. Then it is perfect and YOU can take care of it right.

+1 on RMG. Got a detailed write up faxed to me and Bob was awesome to deal with. Caught about $15k worth of repairs I would need to do (at the surprise of the owner!). Cost for PPI about $400.

I spoke to the owner last week & the story seemed plausable. However given the low miles, why would the respray already be starting to peel? I walked as I don't feel that this car was very well cared for.

I agree, I would definitely get all of the background on why the car was reprayed.
His asking price of $60k definitely reflects the repray.
I have a 96 993TT (13k) as well and if I were to sell my car I would probably/definitely ask for more money (similar to what was mentioned above) since my car has had no repray history

Get an independent specialist to check the car out. They will check in the trunk under the carpet for accident damage and will be able to tell you if the car has been in a serious accident ir not. If unsure, walk away, plenty more out there

My advice is to look for a car with 30-40k miles on it that has been carefully looked after by one or two owners. You'll end up getting the best bang for the buck and probably find something in around $60-65k. If on the other hand you want a pristine, mint, low mileage example you really need to be prepared to pay a minimum of $75k for something just under 20k miles. The prices then go up rapidly depending on just how few miles it has. I am talking showroom condition examples. Willhoit has good examples of these vehicles.
