Probably not street-legal due to lack of cats. So, for "off road use only"

Plus, with a full cage, I wouldn't drive it on the street anyway, not without a helmet.

Leak down test and Rockwell test on heads will tell if it's a deal or no deal.

even if it needs a refresh say 14G, there seem to be enough goodies in there to make it valuable. Only problem is if you wanted to go racing you'd likely be be classed in GT1R in PCA and still not be very competitive. sigh.

I think your right GT1R would not be good. I'm ready for a change though. Either I spend some money on new motons and erp bits and get the turbo's rebuilt or sell it. My car is very competitive against the top J class players but at Sebring this past weekend I can not keep up with Poeltl in I class. He is 2 seconds a lap faster. He can out pull me down the front and back straights. I think my quickest lap was around 2.235 and he was at 2.215. Amazing he can do that in 3.6l 996.

In J you are classed with 996tt's correct? Nobody notices if you slip an S ecu in there, erp monoballs, evo uprights and, and stiff sways, and heavy springs until you start winning everything... right??

watch the end here....

I just went old school, bought a 1969 911 race car w a 2.2l motor that I am going to vintage race. SLOW little momentum car with cheap consumables. Good cheap competitive racing.

Making a 993tt a competitive racer is a difficult proposition in PCA particularly in any kind of stock class.

With only air cooling the heads go though a heat cycle, more boost more heat. After a time the metal starts to fatigue and get soft and looses its sealing ability.
A rockwell test will confirm the hardness of the heads.
FWIW, the factory race cars in the mid 90's would discard the heads after 40 hours due to sealing issues.
PCA isn't the only place to run a turbo, NASA and SCCA offer some nice competition.

The 993 turbo just does just fine in J class, although it is toward the bottom of the ranking of cars in power to weight. The 996 turbo is in the class as well but its rare you see one racing. Same with my car. The class is mostly GT3's. It's all up to the drivers of course. Most races I go to you will see a couple of top J class drivers and then the others who are 3 to 6 seconds a lap slower. Same in every class really. That is true re no one checking until you win everything. Kind of defeats the purpose in PCA racing though. You can tell who the cheaters are... when they consistently miss corners but yet out pull you down the straight you know. Stock by the way is such a misnomer in PCA. My car is far from stock yet is within the rules. What is stock is the motor, turbo's and ecu. Anyway, its all in good fun but like most of us I'm always thinking of something different.
