Default Arena Red with Black Int. FS

Arena Red with Black Interior and 39k miles. Decent price if no issues. No affiliation - just passing along the info.

The exact car I was trying to buy last year. Would be a good deal if no issues considering I paid about the same for one with 60k miles. During my search, I did come across a few with valve jobs done around 40k miles - overrevs/missed shifts I guess.

Didn't Porsche improve the valve guides in the '97s vs the '96s?? Maybe that's why this particular '96 had a valve job done at 37,000 miles?

Nice car if it checks out.

AFIK, the valves guides were NOT improved. And a valve job at 37k is not normal. Great price on a nice car.

^Thanks for the clarity, ca993twin. Did Porsche fix any of the '96 or '97 Turbos under warranty for the valve guide issues??

Again, AFAIK, Porsche has used "soft" valve guides for many, many years in their cars, and has never felt they were a problem. Translation: no warranty for valve guide issues. I believe.

unless you were one of the few who had their guides go bad while you were still in the emissions warranty

Differences between '97 and '96 are stronger input shaft, slightly better IC pipes and programmable ECU. Apparently late production '96s have the upgraded input shaft. I think these items can almost be dealt with cheaper than the purchace price spread between the years??.....assuming you want to mod. When I was shopping, all of the cars had paint, especially the medium (like this one) and high mileage vehicles. Most had scratch, keying or stonechip repairs.

Corrections? from searches. Apparently the later '96 ECUs can now be modified and the input shaft difference is marginal at best.

hmmm - sounds fishy to me. So after the cost of repairs he gets $40k at best for a really nice 993tt?
