Default $220 oil change

$220 is what my local (chicago) porsche dealer wants for an oil change.

does that include the filters and synthetic oil? if so, then not too bad since those cost at least half the price

That is pretty typical. And they will probably put 0W40 in it too, which is the wrong viscosity for the Turbo.

Where are you located in Chicago? You should take it to an indy shop like Fischer (Barrington) or Perfect Power (Buffalo Grove).

225 all in is the shop rate, buy the 10 quarts yourself and pay your wrench 1.5 hrs of labor, you'll save a few bucks

DriveIt, Are you a Chicago PCA member? There is a guy in the January newsletter selling 13 quarts of Mobil 1 15W50 for $4 per quart. Great price. Cash & carry. Located in Hinsdale. Just a thought.

Seems fair to me. I just changed my own oil and the parts total:

$50 for 2 OEM filters, washers and rubber o rings for the oil line. (Including shipping from Sunset)
$44 for 10 Qt of Mobil 1 15-50 at Wal Mart. (2 5 qt jugs)

Total $94 in parts alone. Add an hour of shop labor and that gets to $220 easily.

Patrick, I've never done an oil change on my Porsches. Please tell me more about these oil line O rings. Are these O rings for the oil lines going to the tops of the turbo that I can see? Thanks.

Oil changes on these cars are a pain. 220 is pretty much worht it. I reccommend doing it once then you'll realize the value in outsourcing.

You can change the small filter without disconnecting that oil line, just needs a little manipulation.

But removing that oil line isn't hard. So I just remove it.

I agree with what was said earlier that it may be worth the cost to have a reliable shop do the work. But by the time I drop the car off, get home, pick it up, etc, I would rather do it myself. (And know that it was filled properly.)

Make sure you warm the car before you drain the oil. Try not to splatter the hot oil and burn yourself. Lastly don't over fill. In other words, SPEND the $220. it's messy!!!!

i'm not sure what the $220 includes...taking the car in tomorrow morning so i will let you know. No HTwo 0 ...if not 0w40 what viscosity should i request? i/m in lincoln park and headed to the porsche exchange in highland park (i will let them change my oil but would never buy another car from them). spartan...i don't change my own oil bc i am not mechanically inclined, also lazy. if parts are $94, then $220 seems fair given they charge $160 per hour labor.
