993 Twin Turbo As A Daily Driver?
Guys,
I haven't spent much time here as I used to only dream about buying a 993TT. Well, I'm getting up there on my '06 Cayenne Turbo and it's coming close to time to trade it for something else. I've come across a '96 Arena Red (with gray interior) 993TT (just like Steve's old car, Waldo) with 41K on the odometer. Seller is looking for mid-50's for the car and may be willing to "do a deal". Naturally, I'll have ParkPlace check it over thoroughly before buying (especially the Secondary Air Injectors) so I know what I could be getting into.
What I would like to know is this - is the 993TT a good daily driver?
I'm in Dallas so I don't have to worry about ice or snow (usually) or other hazards. Just want to secure some opinions from folks like Steve and Bob and Chris among others. Hope you will forgive an intrusion from a non-regular forum member! Who knows, you guys may have to start putting up with me here if this works out (ltc is gonna miss me in the Cayenne forum). Thanks in advance guys.

Race Car
Hi Toby,
We haven't met (yet). I drove my Turbo R in Dallas as a daily driver for about 6 months and it is great. My car is low and I don't have any problems with the bad Dallas roads and dips.
Let me know if I can help you check out the car you are interested in. 2ndary air problems are not that common on the turbo cars, but you definitely want a good PPI as you suggest.
Good luck.

Having been driving it almost everyday for the six years I have it. Just got it back after some major work - couldn't wait to drive it. I bought this car to drive it, not put it in a museum. Feel like that's one way to really get my money's worth. Truth is it has been a non problem as far as maintance goes.

Hey Toby,
Another Dallas guy chiming in here. First, it would be great to have another TT running around Dallas. I never see any.
Second, I don't daily drive mine, but would have no problem doing so if I chose to. It's a great car and should be very reliable for many more miles. Most importantly, it will provide neverending smiles.

Hi Toby,
Nice to hear from you, and I'm glad to see that you're thinking of a 993TT. On the car you're looking at, be sure to have the clutch evaluated for wear (they're expensive to replace), make sure the AWD viscous coupler is still functioning OK, and check for oil leaks and oil in the intercooler. Steering rack leaks are also fairly common on all 993s. Smaller things like the fan resistor can also be edgy. Also, be sure that the original shocks have been changed... they are junk.
There is a guy on this board that daily drives his 993TT and has well over 250,000 miles on it, and has made very few replacement. Of course he is doing mostly hiway driving. Fuel milage does SUCK in these cars, however.
You will always be welcome on this forum. And thanks again for the great favor you did for me all those years ago.

I use mine to drive. My daily driver is a bicycle lately - commute to and from work on it. But I used mine as a daily driver over the first 8-9 months after I bought it. It now gets quite a bit less daily driving.

As a daily driver...hmmm....I would say it depends on the average driving distance and traffic you encounter each day. I live just outside of LA County and drive 70 miles round trip each day into some of the worst traffic you could imagine (101 and 405 fwys). Not only would I not drive a 993TT, I wouldn't drive a stick .
Now, if I had to make that drive out in the middle of nowhere, I would definitely consider driving a TT.
