I have noticed that car has been on sale for many months. I think they must have had it for at least one year now. It seems really strange to me that they don't know the history of a car with such low mileage. Perhaps also people don't want to spend that much when the prices on used 997s are becoming more attractive by the minute it seems.

Purely the economy, not many have that kind of coin laying around for a toy.

Although the economy can have some effect, the fact there is no history on such a low mileage car says it all. It's probably one of the most important factors on this type of low mileage vehicle.

How much history do you need on a low mileage car?

Mileage, to a certain degree speaks for itself.

In this case, dry rot is the enemy...

But nothing that can't be fixed. Unless there's more than meets the eyes.

Buying a low mileage car for high value, you'll lose "half" of the high value when drive it off the lot...

But a most enjoyable ride nonetheless

Default The Porsche Museum (probably) has one, so all the rest are meant to be driven . . .

Then you could always trailer it off the lot

but that assumes the mileage is accurate. The history can help confirm that the mileage IS accurate. If it is a 5K car, the oil (and brake fluid etc) should have been changed regularly regardless of the mileage.

Personally, I like them "driven"...we all know what happens when you let these air cooled cars sit. Awesome color combo, I like the blue one as well.

In absence of "history" on a low mileage car, or any car, a PPI is a must regardless.

I don't believe 50% of the member's cars here were bought with "full" history anyway...

And I believe those 50% used good judgment and common sense to judge their purchase.

If it says 5K on the odo, it better look like a 5k car should look.

And "history" is only as good as the paper its written on.

Ask Carfax...

I mentioned this on another thread, but I have to wonder if it's the same car Sloan had a year or so ago. It looks almost identical and the miles were about the same.

I was very interested in Sloan's car, but in doing the diligence I found out it had a blown motor from a missed shift at the track. It took a very long time for it to be repaired, and the shop that did it was not a pure porsche guy. He wanted big $$ for it. I made a somewhat low ball offer which he did not respond to and a few months later the car was off his site.

I'm not certain this is the same car, but the one I was looking at was oned by a guy in RI.
