There have been many posts on this topic, but I thought I would add my $0.02 anyway. I installed the Fabspeed muffler bypasses the other day -- thanks to fellow Oregon RL member Dave who gave me what I thought was a great deal at $100.
First, I love the weight savings and assume I am also being doing the motor a favor by reducing heat. As for performance, It feels like the boost comes on a few hundred RPM lower and spools a little faster, but it could be placebo effect / altered perception from more noise, etc. Anyway, I love the way they make the car feel and consider it money well spent.
As for sound, I don't mind the increased volume, but don't love the sound. It definitely has the burble / motorboat / fart-in-the-bath sound. So I would describe the sound as different and louder, but not really better. Frankly, I haven't ever heard a 993TT that sounded awesome -- not on Youtube, not in real life. They all seem to be missing that metallic, mechanical, more staccato, more urgent scream of a racy NA car. I know the turbos muffle the sound, but even at idle it's just noise, not music. Is that just life with low compression, or is there a way to get that "crack" sound on these cars?
Good to hear what you thought of the sound. I will go the muffler route when the exchange rates sort there **** out. Until then, silence is golden.....
I owe you, as you kicked off the post that led me to this good deal. Thanks. Also, since I posted this thread a few hours ago, I have had the chance to drive to and from a meeting, and I definitely think my car is more fun to drive...and I think faster.
I have the same Fabspeed bypasses. I would agree it's not NA sound (especially NA + RSR or bypass) but it's definitely now got more character and growl especially on cold starts. I like that, even if I don't love the new sound above all else, because it really was pretty bland before.

Thats sweet that you are happy. The turbo's would have to spool up faster now. No wonder you can feel it.
I have my spare 993TT mufflers at home now.. Let me know if you want to work something out . The Swedish krona is really taking a beating at the moment so if I get paid in any other currency (except NZD?) it's ok ..
Seriously though, I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for the Swedish krona (SEK) and the NZD. I don't see it happening anytime soon though
